“ Our store and business is growing and I am happy to be in the City of Gloucester,”said Maurice Acevedo, proprietor of the new pharmacy and discount store that opened in January, 2010. The Monmouth Street building previously housed a pharmacy that moved away and the building has been empty for almost two years.
Now, customer’s prescriptions are filled speedily by pharmacist, Les Fox, RPH. “There are many saving costs realized on the prescriptions and the customers do not have a long wait for most of their medicines, “said Iris, the store manager.
The store is within walking distance for the Gloucester City residents and delivery service is available for the house-bound, not only for pharmacy needs but for most of items in the store. “Once a prescription has originally been filled, the customer can also order re-fills through a phone call,” Iris said.
Over the counter cold and allergy medicines, canes, crutches, bandages, vitamins and other medical supplies are available in the pharmacy section. Most major insurance plans are accepted with more to be added following contract signing with the insurance companies.
Applications are also awaiting approval for the acceptance of Family First cards and from the Women, Infant and Children (WIC) Program that provides formula, cereal, milk and juice for infants ages birth to 5 years old.
In addition to pharmaceutical supplies, the store also sells grocery items, ice cream, soda, beauty supplies, household needs such as soaps, detergents, diapers and other infant needs.
Auto and hardware items, pet supplies, etc. are for sale and a copy machine at 15 cents per copy is located in the front of the store as well as the use of a Fax machine.
A full array of greeting cards line the card racks in beautiful and easy to find order. Party supplies, balloons, wrapping paper, ribbons and bows are for sale also.
Baskets filled with theme gifts such as different sport items, perfumes for the ladies, graduation gifts and for Father’s Day can be purchased also. Incenses, candles and picture frames are also found on the shelves.
An exciting feature is the rental of cartoon character costumes for birthday and other celebrations. Interested parties only need to give the store advance notice on the time of the party and if they prefer Sesame Street characters, Sponge Bob, Shrek or other popular characters. Pictures of the costumes can be viewed at the store.
Most of the items on the shelves cost less than $1.29 unless name brands are purchased and even those are at a reduced cost. “Our goal is to satisfy our customers and to help them save money,” said owner Maurice.
The store hours are 9 am to 6:30 pm, Monday through Friday, 9 am to 3pm on Saturday and closed on Sunday.
