Willow Grove Park’s Style Squad Collects More Than 25 Prom Dresses The dresses were donated to Fairy Godmothers, a local nonprofit that makes the donations available at a low cost for less fortunate teens.
WILLOW GROVE, PA – May 25, 2010 – Dresses, purses, shoes and dates. It’s prom season for area high school students, and as the excitement builds, so does the cost. Although the ladies are on their own to find dates, Willow Grove Park’s Style Squad made this prom season less financially stressful by collecting over 25 dresses plus accessories for less fortunate local teens. The dresses were donated to Fairy Godmothers, a local nonprofit that makes the donations available at a low cost. The dresses were sold at the Fairy Godmothers’ 2010 Prom Fair for $10 each, and accessories from earrings to purses were also available for just $2 - $4.
Pictured here (from left): Willow Grove Park Style Squad members Steph Green and Melanie Highbloom of Rydal, Emily Ranieri of Huntingdon Valley and Willow Grove Park Marketing Director Ashlyn Delson pose with a rack of donated prom dresses. The Style Squad collected more than 25 dresses and accessories on behalf of Fairy Godmothers. The items were then sold at a low cost at the organization’s Prom Fair to local teens that otherwise could not afford a high school prom dress.
The Style Squad is a volunteer organization for local students, especially for those with a love of fashion. Every September
to May the Style Squad participate in mall fashion shows, monthly constructive workshops and community service projects, such as Fairy Godmothers. Fairy Godmothers is a non-profit organization that collects prom dresses, accessories and new makeup, and then makes the donations available to be purchased by ladies from financially challenged families at low cost. They strive to make prom dreams come true for students that wouldn’t otherwise have a prom night. For more information on how to donate, volunteer or attend Prom Fair 2011 visit www.mypromdress.org.
