Potential Michigan record buck found Tecumseh Herald 03/31/201 Sharon Weidmayer found an extremely large racked buck on her property in Clinton that may become the biggest non-typical ever recorded in Michigan. It green scored a net of 247-6/8 and will be scored again after a mandatory 60-day drying period. Photo submitted By MICKEY ALVARADO Hold onto your hats the rumors are true — Michigan has a new monarch buck that potentially dwarfs it’s predecessors, as listed in the Commemorative Bucks of Michigan’s (CBM) record book, and it was found by Sharon Weidmayer while out walking her dog by a small...

By Bill Cleary Dave Stallwood made some interesting suggestions in his commentary about the Gloucester City Fire Department. The thought of having the populace vote via a referendum on what to do with this 33 member department sounded like a good idea to me. With the economy in the midst of a recession, a 10 percent unemployment rate, people losing their homes, our City Fathers are going to be forced into taking some kind of action to cut this department’s $4 million budget. I hate to see anyone lose their job however I also hate to see my neighbor or...

By David Stallwood GLOUCESTER CITY NJ-While in conversation with friends fixing all of the problems in life inevitably the topic of the Gloucester City Fire Department (GCFD) came up again. Our discussion moved forward to a solution. The idea of Mayor and council just abolishing this department is truly not viable and who knows if this a worthy solution? The idea of keeping things the same also brings out some heavy opposition. In our opinion the best solution would be for this department to be run by the county so that the cost would be shared with all those who...

By John P. Martin The system that Lower Merion school officials used to track lost and stolen laptops wound up secretly capturing thousands of images, including photographs of students in their homes, Web sites they visited, and excerpts of their online chats, says a new motion filed in a suit against the district. More than once, the motion asserts, the camera on Robbins' school-issued laptop took photos of Robbins as he slept in his bed. Each time, it fired the images off to network servers at the school district. Back at district offices, the Robbins motion says, employees with access...

NRA NEWS News reports indicate that the U.S. House of Representatives may consider legislation next week to which an amendment reforming Washington, D.C.'s restrictive gun laws would likely be offered. The bill-H.R. 157, the District of Columbia Voting Rights Act, introduced by the District's anti-gun delegate, Eleanor Holmes Norton-proposes that the city be authorized a vote in the United States House of Representatives. Dogs are NOT Disposable! I am a volunteer at Camden County Animal Shelter. Every time I walk into the kennel area my heart breaks. So many questions arise as I observe the dogs jumping, barking, and sometimes, sitting sadly in their suites as if wondering what they had done to deserve abandonment. Many of the suites are marked, “I ran away.” I wonder, did they really run away or were they dumped because a child lost interest or an adult got tired? I’ve been training dogs for many years. I’ve also re-homed dozens of dogs when their owners became frustrated,...

GLOUCESER CITY NJ-Can you imagine what it would be like to have a job on the Delaware River in Gloucester City during the heyday of its resort years? Well, lucky me, I did work there. Now you ask, who am I? Well, I am the bell that rang for many a year in the Gloucester Ferry Company belfry. I rang when the boats came into the slips, and I rang again when they departed for Philadelphia. Back in those days the air was fresh and crisp. The river was clean and full of shad waiting to be caught and served...

By Pennsylvania Attorney General Tom Corbett (The following commentary by Pennsylvania Attorney General Tom Corbett explains why he joined the lawsuit challenging the constitutionality of the Health Care Reform Law.) We can all agree that health care reform is necessary. As Pennsylvania's attorney general, I have made health care a priority. In 2009 alone, the attorney general's Health Care Section assisted more than 4,700 consumers and saved Pennsylvanians more than $4.2 million. In addition to providing such direct services to consumers, I believe we must work together in a bipartisan fashion to develop legislative solutions instead of engaging in mere...

In response to Mike Grello of Gloucester City, as a graduate of Gloucester Catholic High School Class of 1974, I too, find it amazing that you “who” criticized the improper use of “then and than” in the Gloucester City News does not know how to use the words “who and whom.” In addition, your use of the term “uneducated cretin” is a redundant statement. As Mr. Countryman stated in his response, I too feel this statement was uncalled for and unusually harsh. Perhaps Mr. Grello should seek an English tutor for himself. Publisher Countryman was correct in stating that there...

Never before in all of recorded history has such a small number of people caused such an incredible amount of damage to billions of people in such a short period of time. The current economic crisis is 100 percent man made. The United States is one more case of a country being destroyed by criminal activities. Attacks upon the economy are timed to coincide with adverse events such as the dust bowl, World War II, or the current exhaustion of U.S. oil reserves. The theory is that the attacks fit in well with other adverse economic factors. The United States...
