ROWAN MEN’S SOCCER TIES THE COLLEGE OF NEW JERSEY, 1-1
GLASSBORO, NJ – The Rowan University men’s soccer team tied The College of New Jersey, 1-1 in a New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) game on Wednesday night.
Rowan is 4-2-1 overall and 0-1-1 in the conference. TCNJ has a 3-2-3 record with a 1-0-1 NJAC mark.
After a scoreless first half, the Lions got on the scoreboard first at 64:08. Midfielder Brian Galicia (sr. Brick, NJ/Ocean Twp.) kicked the ball out of a crowd in front, barely crossing the goal line. Four minutes and 38 seconds later, Profs’ forward Julian Berrios (fr. Lakewood, NJ/Calvary Academy) tied the game. Berrios sent the ball into the upper left corner of the goal after it was deflected off a defender.
Rowan out shot TCNJ, 25-17. Goalkeeper Charlie Cunliffe (jr. Lakewood, NJ/Lakewood) made eight saves for the Profs. In the Lions’ net, goalkeeper Adam Friedman (fr. Chester, NJ/West Morris Mendham) stopped nine shots.
Rowan travels to San Antonio, TX to face Southwestern University on Friday, September 25 at 7 p.m. The game will be played at Trinity University.
Tole Nets Hat Trick as Holy Family University Women’s Soccer Defeats Wilmington (Del.), 3-2 (9/23/2009)
PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – Forward Megan Tole (fr. Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Ryan) scored three goals to lead the Holy Family University women’s soccer team in a 3-2 win over Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) for Wilmington (Del.) University on Wednesday afternoon at Tiger Field.
It was Tole’s first career hat trick, and the Tigers first since Jamie-Lynn Wallace netted four goals against Wilmington on October 7, 2008.
Tole got things going for Holy Family with the game’s first goal at 27:33. She received a pass from back Jenn James (jr. Philadelphia, Pa./Little Flower), then lofted a high shot into the upper left corner. Less than a minute later, Wildcat back Kory Webster tied the game by blasting home a free kick from 35 yards out.
Tole gave Holy Family a 3-1 lead by scoring a pair of goals within the first ten minutes of the second half. The first goal came on a header on a centering pass from midfielder Ashley Antczak (sr. Westville, N.J./West Deptford) at 49:40. Tole was able to complete her hat trick at 52:57. She received a through ball from midfielder Jill Shank (jr. Philadelphia, Pa./Little Flower) and walked in alone on a breakaway.
Wilmington back Danielle Niccoli kept things close by scoring on a free kick from 30 yards away at 61:14.
Holy Family goalkeeper Michelle Giambrone (sr. Barrington, N.J./Seneca) recorded two stops in the victory. Wilmington goalkeeper Brooke Eveler came up with seven saves. The Tigers out-shot the Wildcats. 24-11.
Holy Family is back to .500 overall with a record of 4-4-1. The team improves to 2-0-1 in the CACC. The Tigers have won their last three games. Wilmington is now 4-3-0- overall and 3-1-0 in conference play.
Holy Family goes for its fourth win in a row on Saturday, September 26 with a road contest at CACC opponent Nyack at 1 p.m.
