There will be a special, first time ever event along the waterfront this fall – an Art Festival.
The Gloucester City Cultural Arts and Heritage Society is planning its first annual Art Festival Saturday, September 26, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. in Proprietor’s Park.
The group met August 9 at Troxie's Chicken and Pizza on Broadway to set down ideas, and will have a follow-up meeting Wednesday, September 23, at Heavy’s on the Harbor, Jersey Avenue, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
During the Festival, some seven bands will perform under the pavilion overlooking the Delaware River. Bring lawn chairs and listen to different types of music from hip hop, jazz, and 50's style.
Along the walkway there will be vendors and crafters. The cost is $15 for table space for those interested in selling their wares.
Vendor forms are available on line at [email protected], and in pri-nt. To request a form, call Mary Lou at 856-456-1462. Non-profit organizations are invited to make money for their group.
There will be a children's clothesline art exhibit and contest for ages 8 to 12.
Also, the Society is asking area businesses to donate a prize for the winning art work – which can be completed on an 8”x10'' size piece of paper in any medium.
Children must submit their work no later than September 18 by dropping it off at Troxie's, 142 North Broadway, or mailing it to Gloucester City Cultural Arts, PO Box 311, Gloucester, NJ, 08030.
There will be an open air art contest the day of the festival for teens age 13 on up to adults and seniors.
The picture will portray a rendering of the riverfront in any medium. All names, addresses, and phone numbers must be on the back of any art work. Both adult and children’s art will be judged and awarded.
All artwork forms can be obtained online by emailing [email protected], or by calling Mary Lou at the above number.
There will be a Chinese Auction at Heavy's On The Harbor to wind down the festival at the end of the day, along with entertainment from a Philadelphia musician.
On September 5, there will be a photography exhibit by Joseph McCullough in the Gloucester Heights Fire Hall from 1 to 4 p.m. There will be refreshments, and music by Rachel Dickerman.
