On June 16, 2009. Age 73. Of Millsboro, DE. Formerly of Gloucester City, NJ. Loving and devoted husband of 51 years to Marie T. Murphy (nee Conroy). Loving father of Patrick (Theresa) Murphy, Kathleen (Dan) McDevitt, Maureen McIntyre, Michael (Suzanne) Murphy, Colleen Cianci, Dennis (Angela) Murphy, Sean (Linda) Murphy and Meghan (Brian) Kearns. Predeceased by his twin sons; John and Joseph and son Michael James. Loving Pop-Pop of 25 grandchildren and 6 great-children. Dear brother of Regina (Ralph) Saquella, Bernadette (Al) Radano. Predeceased by his sisters; Marie (surviving Henry) Bullock and Alice (Jim) Gallagher. Also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins.
George was born in Woodbury and was a longtime resident of Gloucester City before moving to Millsboro. He was a 1954 graduate of Gloucester Catholic High School. George devoted 44 years as a Union Electrician for Local 439/351 out of Folsom, NJ. He was proud to serve the Local as an Executive Board Member. George served as an assistant football coach for Gloucester Catholic. He was a faithful and devoted parishioner of St. Mary’s R.C. Church and Mary Mother of the Peace R.C. Church in Millsboro. George was a man of strong faith always putting family first. He shared his time crabbing and his talent of woodworking with his family. He was generous of his treasure to all he loved and those in need.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his viewing on Sunday evening from 6 to 9 pm and again Monday morning from 8 to 10 am at the McCANN-HEALEY FUNERAL HOME: 851 Monmouth St. (at Brown St.) Gloucester City. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11 am at Saint Mary’s R.C. Church: 426 Monmouth Street, Gloucester City. Interment New Saint Mary’s Cemetery, Bellmawr.
