The NJ DEP Division of Fish and Wildlife's Skillful Angler Awards Program recognizes anglers who catch both freshwater and marine fish, which exceed a size threshold established for each species. In 2008, anglers submitted 168 applications representing 25 different species. 

In addition to recognizing every skillful angler with a certificate documenting their catch, special recognition is given to the Adult, Junior, and Catch and Release anglers who catch the largest fish of each species.
