Sean Gorman (photo) has been named The Coach of the Year by the Sean gorman lions coach Philadelphia Inquirer and the Gloucester County Times newspapers.  Gorman coaches the Gloucester City High School Girls Basketball Team. Under his guidance, Gloucester High captured the school’s first South Jersey title in girl’s basketball and reached the Group I state championship. The Lions record for the year was 27-3.  Gorman is a 1998 Gloucester City High graduate who is a guidance counselor at the school. His assistant coach this season was his father, Joe, a special-ed teacher at the school.

Here is a disturbing piece of news. A Gloucester City Little League coach was assaulted in the parking lot of a Brooklawn restaurant last Saturday by a parent of one of the Little League players. The parent hit the official from behind knocking him to the ground. The official suffered a dislocated shoulder. Nearby witnessing the altercation was the official’s children. Police were called and the parent was allegedly charged with aggravated assault. With this type of behavior by a parent it is no wonder that youth organizations have trouble attracting coaches.

Moving on…The City of Gloucester City is seeking proposals for the sale or redevelopment of the Chatham Square Apartments, Rt. 130 and Klemm Ave. The City purchased the eight buildings consisting of 100 apartments in 2008 for $4.250 million. The successful bidder will be required to convert the 100 apartment into 50 two-story townhouses. The deadline is April 8th.  For more information go to News category on the City’s web site http://www.cityofgloucester.org/ .

We returned home from our Arizona trip last Monday. What a beautiful state. The first thing that struck me when we drove from the airport Trip to sedona arizona 039 to our hotel was how clean and pristine the highways and interstates are kept.  No liter at all. On the side of each roadway were beautiful flowers and different size cactus.  We were there for 12 days to watch The College of New Jersey baseball team play. Our grandson, Adam Tussey of Brooklawn is the second baseman. The 11 game series was played on fields in the Phoenix, Tempe area which is surrounded by vast mountain ranges and endless blue sky. Besides baseball games we took time to visit some sites such as Montezuma Castle, Sedona, Scottsdale, Prescott, and Flagstaff.  It was a once in a lifetime trip.  Photo: Connie and granddaughter Jessica Tussey, click to enlarge....SEE VIDEO

Haddon Twp resident Tom Cassel has filed a lawsuit against the Township for numerous alleged violations of the Open Public Meetings Act (OPMA) and the Open Public Records Act (OPRA).  Cassel said the township did not inform the public of five meetings between commissioners and township solicitor Richard Klineburger. Cassel said the meetings, which took place between January and June of last year, should have been advertised under the OPRA because two of three commissioners were present, constituted a quorum.See www.haddontwp.wordpress.com

Recently the State Department of Education release the 2009 Comparative Spending Guide which details how much it cost each district to educate a pupil. According to the Guide the total spending per pupil in the communities of Pennsauken, Gloucester City, Camden City and Collingswood school districts exceeds the state average. New Jersey School Board Association spokesman Frank Belluscio said many factors influence per-student spending, including the size of the district's special-needs student population.
