Hello everyone, My son, Jesse Wicker, is doing a fundraiser for Jump Rope for Heart. He is very excited about being able to do something that helps others. I do encourage my kids to participate in charities to teach them human kindness and compassion. I would appreciate anyone that would be interested in donating to his fundraiser to stop by his webpage and donate. Last year he was very disappointed that only a few donated. Jump roping is hard for him because of the coordination skills that he lacks. But he did try very hard last year to thank the ones that donated and sponsored him. I want him to know just how many do care. He has a hard time approaching people on this because of the autism and we were pleased to see that it was offered online now and that helps him in his goal. If you...

Image via Wikipedia Press Release CORRECTION - Please see the corrected press release below concerning where the new regulations apply. Harrisburg, PA – Licensed Pennsylvania anglers fishing the Delaware River and Estuary can now harvest striped bass and hybrid striped bass from April 1 through May 31, a season which has been closed by the Fish & Boat Commission (PFBC) since 1992. Under the new regulations, adopted by the PFBC at its January quarterly meeting, anglers can harvest two striped bass per day between 20-26 inches during the two-month season. The change is the result of the successful restoration of the striped bass population along the Atlantic Coast. The regulations are designed to allow some harvest of male striped bass, while still protecting most of the spawning female striped bass. For the rest of the year, there is a 28-inch minimum length and a two fish per day creel limit....

Letters to the Editor, http://www.northjersey.com Wednesday March 18, 2009, 6:48 AM In Corzine's three years, property taxes jumped nearly 20 percent; as candidate, he pledged to lower them by 40 percent in four years. SINCE JANUARY, I have received dozens upon dozens of messages from people all over New Jersey who are hurting, scared, desperate and angry. They are young and old, married and single, working and jobless. Their stories are heartbreaking, and none of them believes his or her voice is being heard by Governor Corzine and the Legislature. Marilyn from Oxford says she and her husband had to sell their home of 10 years. Why? "We never missed a payment or have ever been late [but] because of unreasonable property taxes we were forced to sell before the situation gets any worse." Elaine from Smithville is a divorcee who shares her home with her 94-year-old mother. Two years...

Image via Wikipedia By Chris Concannon NEWS Correspondent The Phillie Phanatic, mascot of the World Champion Philadelphia Phillies, paid a visit to a group of avid, young readers at Bellmawr Park School March 6 through his “Phanatic About Reading” program. Making a special trip from his winter home in the Galapagos Islands, the big, furry green guy greeted the students in the All-Purpose Room for an hour-long assembly full of music, dancing, and a special reading by Principal Elizabeth Calabria. Teacher Susan Hubbard said six students, part of a combined mainstream and special education curriculum, read enough books to be selected for the special event. Along with Student Teacher Shana Keenan, the three first and three second graders sat in the front row as Mrs. Calabria read. The Phanatic cavorted about, kissing people on the head, and throwing confetti around the room at will. A Phillies representative said that Mrs....

Westville purchased the special, 20-gallon trash cans encoded with the residents’ own bar code, whereby they would receive rewards for the amount of their trash to be used for shopping coupons. “For the pilot program, every household in Brooklawn will use their own trash receptacles which will be encoded at no cost to the borough,” Milligan said. New research and development technology will be tested in Brooklawn, and the total weight amount of recycling...

By Donna Miles American Forces Press Service WASHINGTON, March 18, 2009 - The challenge issued by a flight attendant during a recent commercial air flight seemed innocuous enough: "Name just one of the five Medal of Honor recipients from the current engagements in Afghanistan or Iraq, and get a free drink coupon." But the passengers' response – more specifically, the inability of all but just one to respond – revealed how little the average American knows about its military heroes. Bombarded by superhero lore almost from birth, many Americans grow to revere fictional heroes as well as sports and celebrity icons. But silence descended over the cabin of a flight bound from Jacksonville, Fla., to Baltimore when the conversation turned to those who had earned the nation's highest honor for valor – even when a free cocktail hung in the balance. Dale Shelton, an Annapolis, Md., resident who served five...

Robert Superko , MD, principal investigator in the landmark FEMA-sponsored study of firefighters aged 40 and over conducted at Saint Joseph's Hospital in Atlanta , released preliminary findings in the world's first study of first responders at risk of suffering sudden death or other significant cardiac events. Firefighters are known to have a three hundred percent increased risk for cardiac disease as compared to other segments of the population. "Preliminary findings show that one third of firefighters had heart disease that is unrelated to traditional risk factors, such as high cholesterol," says Dr. Superko. "Those results are astounding and point at job duties and environment as the primary determinants for early death in our country's first responders." » Read More

To Supporters of Sunday Bow Hunting, Congratulations! The votes have been cast and bills A595 (perimeter bill) and A-1669 (Sunday Bow) passed the assembly overwhelmingly! Bill A1669/S-802 (Sunday Bow) now heads to the Governor. A595 was amended and approved in the assembly and goes back to the senate (S976) for a vote. It was approved overwhelmingly the first time it was considered and a majority vote will send it to the Governor. Unity is what has brought success with these bills - unity among all outdoorsmen and outdoorswomen. Anglers, such as JCAA and ReefRescue, testified on behalf of the bills while they were considered in committee. I also approached the angling community to call their legislators in support of the bills - and they responded. United Bow Hunters worked hard to create the bills and made sure a representative was with me in Trenton yesterday helping to educate law makers...

Hi Bill, You can't make this stuff up. The American International Group (AIG) has received more than $170 billion in taxpayer bailout money. Now, incredibly, it wants to award $165 million in retention bonuses to its top management. These are the same executives whose bad business decisions drove AIG and our economy into the ground. This is unacceptable! Please click here to tell AIG to withhold all executive bonuses until taxpayer money has been repaid. The government-appointed chairman of AIG, Edward Liddy, tried to defend the bonuses by saying, "We cannot attract and retain the best and the brightest talent to lead and staff the A.I.G. businesses... if employees believe their compensation is subject to continued and arbitrary adjustment by the U.S. Treasury."[1] Really? These are the very same "best and brightest" managers who sold risky credit default swaps that brought huge losses for the insurer. Enough is enough. President...

March 16, 2009 I write, both individually and in my capacity as Chairman of the New Jersey Libertarian Party’s Open Government Advocacy Project. I ask that you please consider, at the next City Council meeting, changing the form of resolution the Council passes before going into nonpublic (i.e. closed or executive) session. Attached are: 1. The Mayor and Council should be more descriptive and list topics like “Litigation – Smith v.
