Memorial AA BASKETBALL TOURNEY A SUCCESS

The Memorial Athletic Association’s Annual 7th & 8th grade basketball tournament was once again a great success. Teams from Gloucester City, Brooklawn, St. Mary’s, Holy Trinity, St. Margaret’s, Runnemede, Merchantville & Clementon competed in the tournament. The Memorial Athletic Association would like to thank all of the schools, and their fans, for a great week of basketball. Gloucester City in Compliance with COAH Guidelines

By Linda Boker-Angelo NEWS Correspondent During a short meeting last week, members of the Gloucester City Planning Board heard a brief presentation by planner Shirley Bishop regarding the City’s compliance status with New Jersey Council on Affordable Housing (COAH) guidelines. COAH is the state agency designated to set the standards and insure that municipalities are meeting their obligations to offer fair, affordable housing opportunities for low and moderate income families. Brooklawn: Striped Bass Delay Development Along Delaware River

By Sara Martino NEWS Correspondent BROOKLAWN NJ-A previous delay in the improvements along the Brooklawn waterfront was attributed to the findings by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and other state officials that concerned the possible finding of artifacts from an old fort and an endangered plant life. Dr. Frank Iula, Mt. Ephraim Family Physician Succumbs from Prostate Cancer

A Funeral Mass was held at St. Rose of Lima Church, Haddon Heights for Frank A. Iula, 82, of Haddon Heights, a family physician in Mount Ephraim for more than 52 years, died of prostate cancer March 7, 2009 at his home. Dr. Iula continued to see patients while battling cancer and Parkinson’s disease until falling in August. He had hoped to recover and return to work and refused to retire, said his daughter, Maria Bezich. Dr. Iula decided to be a doctor after his mother died of a long illness when he was 8. 3-Year Fiscal safety net backed for Abbott schools

| Philadelphia Inquirer | 03/26/2009. The Abbotts and their representatives argued that the formula could undo gains in the struggling districts. They asked the Supreme Court to find the change unconstitutional because of the dire consequences it would have for their children. In this school year, the first under the formula, most Abbott districts received the smallest aid increases given. In the next school year, most are projected to get no increase. South Jersey Port Corp sued over methadone clinic

Courier-Post. The suit claims that plans to build a methadone clinic in a marine terminal on Broadway to serve 900 drug addicts a day would be detrimental to the neighborhood, according to documents filed by Marlton attorney Ann C. Pearl. Lawsuit Filed Against Gloucester City for Violation of OPRA

By Bill Cleary Several weeks ago John Paff filed an OPRA request with Paul Kain, custodian of records for the City of Gloucester City requesting a number of documents (see here). In a recent interview Paff said that request was not handled properly as such he filed a lawsuit on Wednesday, March 25 against the City of Gloucester City to obtain those documents. State Aid to Gloucester City will Remain the Same

But, Bellmawr, Brooklawn, Mount Ephraim and Westville will all see a 0.5 percent reduction, according to figures released by the state last week. Some town officials were relieved state aid cuts were not as severe as expected. Yet, in these difficult economic times, it will still be difficult to figure out the 2009 municipal budgets. Bellmawr School District Anticipates $871,000 Shortfall

By Chris Concannon NEWS Correspondent A handful of residents filled the Bell Oaks Media Centre March 4 as part of a Budget Advisory Committee implemented by Bellmawr Superintendent Annette Castiglione. Coach Gorman put good team over top

- NJ.com. Gloucester City HS captured its first sectional title after nearly 80 years of play and a host of great players, reaching the Group I state final. Two huge streaks resulted in a record 27 wins. He began three years ago molding this team into a champion, and by this year it was ready to fulfill its potential thanks in large part to the Gloucester County Times Girls Basketball Coach of the Year. Patricia Kay Potts AGE 61, formerly of Gloucester City

POTTS,Patricia Kay Age 61, passed away at her home in Lakewood, CO. Born in Atlantic City, NJ in 1947, lived her adult life in Gloucester City, and moved to Lakewood in 1993. Daughter of Eugene Richard Owens (deceased) and Virginia Doris Gardner, sister to Richard Eugene Owens, mother to Jason R. Potts and Marianne K. Herman and grandmother to Benjamin Aaron Herman. A celebration of her life will be at 2:00pm on Sat. March 28, at the Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, 200 East Clements Bridge Road, Runnemede, NJ. Read more →


Mt. Ephraim New $ 3 Million firehouse on track

Courier-Post. Through the Camden County Improvement Authority, the borough fire department was able to fully finance the project with no down payment. The new firehouse will replace an aging, 50-year-old fire hall with a leaking roof and aging utilities on Bell Road. The inadequate, 60-year-old garage attachment houses fire trucks that barely clear the door by less than 6 inches and allows only 3 feet of room for the firefighters to gear up for calls. Gorman coaches the Gloucester City High School Girls Basketball Team. Under his guidance, Gloucester High captured the school’s first South Jersey title in girl’s basketball and reached the Group I state championship. The Lions record for the year was 27-3. Dan Glassman now attends Neumann College and during his spring break, from March 1st to March 6th, he and 10 students from Neumann traveled to New Orleans to work on the rebuilding effort. The Neumann students in conjunction with Catholic Charities group worked in the Gentilly section and the lower ninth ward – painting, scraping, caulking and helping to get New Orleans residents back into their homes.
