I could walk around the yard barefoot in safety. My house could be carpeted instead of tiled and laminated. All flat surfaces, clothing, furniture and cars would be free of hair. When the doorbell rings, it would sound like a kennel. When the doorbell rings, I could get to the door without wading through fuzzy bodies who beat me there. I could sit on the couch and my bed the way I wanted, without considering how much space several fur bodies would need to get comfortable. I would have money….and no guilt to go on real vacation. I would not be on a first name basis with six veterinarians, as I put their yet unborn grand kids through college. The most used words in my vocabulary would not be: out, sit, down, come, no, stay and leave him/her/ALONE. My house would not be a cordoned off into zones with baby...

Source: Gloucester City News January 12th, 2009 After years of public debate about the best way to expand the PATCO Hi-Speedline deeper into South Jersey, the state Office of Smart Growth has recommended the route between Camden City and Glassboro because it would ease highway congestion and serve a number of Camden and Gloucester County communities. In doing so, the state office rejected the high-speed alternatives along routes 42 and 55, Interstate 676 and the Atlantic City Expressway. The plan recommended would have stops in Gloucester City, Brooklawn, Bellmawr and Westville, and continue on to Glassboro. The ultimate decision will be made by the Delaware River Port Authority (DRPA), which operates the current PATCO line from Lindenwold to Philadelphia.Related articles by Zemanta State agency backs extension of PATCO along freight corridor TIPS AND SNIPPETS: $10 Million Renovation Plan for Pier, 73 Homes in Foreclosure in 08030, Top 10 Company located...

Ice Skating at the Minni Hole .......... (Sunday, January 18, 2009) Memories-How many remember your days as a kid ice skating at the Minni Hole or Martins Lake, both within a block of each other on Johnson Blvd. We would spend the entire day, and rush back after supper to skate some more in the evening. To keep warm we would build a bonfire. The crowds, which included adults, would get so big some days we would bump into each other. Today as can see there is only handful of kids taking advantage of this fun activity. The same goes for Martins Lake, six kids is all that I saw there. Kids today don't know how to have fun it seems. They want nothing to do with any activity unless there is a computer or video game involved. I feel sorry for them.~BILL CLEARYRelated articles by Zemanta ClearysNoteBook: Martins Lake...

(Dedicated on Sept. 7, 1940) Will Martin’s Lake still exist in the year 2020? I’m beginning to have my doubts. The Lakes Committee and Gloucester’s “clean up day” can only do so m uch. If trash continues to be thrown into this lake at the current rate, it’s doubtful this lake will be around for long. The city has placed “trash containers” around the lake’s perimeter, but obviously it requires too much effort for people to deposit their empty bottles or plastic snack bags in them. Just last week when temperatures dipped, the lake naturally began to freeze. What was once a favorite spot for winter sports, i.e., ice skating and ice hockey, now looked like a dump. Bottles and trash were strewn atop the thin ice. It certainly was not a “Currier & Ives” picture. What happens next, when temperatures go back up and the ice melts, all the...

By Albert Countryman Jr. The staggering economy has been the big story of 2008, with the U.S. government finally admitting the nation was in a recession all of this year. This has affected local people who have lost jobs and are struggling to make ends meet. It has also hurt local businesses, making it harder to survive. The budget process for town governments and school boards will be increasingly difficult. However, there have been some bright spots. The new Gloucester City Middle School, which is now a vacant lot minus 68 homes and two businesses, will finally be built. Governor Corzine has asked the N.J. School Development Authority to begin building and renovating schools as a measure to upgrade the economy. Developers and builders have been feeling the credit crunch, but there are still several projects -- including 29 new townhomes at the former Coast Guard Pier on the Delaware...

OneidaDispatch.com. The scene just described is actually at Fairmont-Kenauk, a 65,000-acre estate in Quebec’s Laurentian Mountains. This huge tract of forest land is a challenge and a special treat for anyone who likes to hunt the big woods in traditional ways. Adding to the appeal is the fact that you have exclusive use of thousands of acres for you and your group and the opportunity to shoot some truly big deer. Fairmont-Kenauk is not your typical hunting lodge or destination. It is a large former private estate that was established in the 19th century to protect fish and wildlife habitats.
