A handful of Bellmawr residents filed into December’s Borough Council Meeting to hear who won the 19th Annual Holiday House Decorating Contest.
Councilman Lou Di Angelo opened the meeting by announcing winners from the seven voting districts.
While in most years the process runs smoothly, Councilman Di Angelo noted there were two separate ties, adding it was hard to deny residents who really went “all out.”
This year’s winners are:
District 1, Cerami Family, East Browning Road; District 2, Brown Family, Sunnyside Lane; District 3, Thomas Family, Windsor Drive; District 4, a tie with Patterson Family, Aspen Place; and Schnell Family, Aspen Place.
Also, District 5, Rund-strom Family, Princeton Avenue; District 6, a four-way tie with Epaldo Family, Grant Avenue; Heslin Family, Grant Avenue; Kenney Family, Grant Avenue; and Mc Shane Family, Grant Avenue; District 7, Sullivan Family, Roberts Avenue.
The 11 families were all presented with plaques from the Borough.
Councilwoman Regina Piontkowski noted that not only did these residents show they are in the Christmas spirit, it also shows the pride they have in their communities.
In other business, Mayor Frank Filipek Sr. commented on the recent Christmas In the Park, held at the Rec Centre from December 12-14, adding there were an estimated 10,000 people who attended the three-day event.
This is some 2,000 more than the Mayor’s original estimate of 8,000, published previously.
Mayor Filipek talked about the ongoing Landfill Redevelopment Project, noting that the overall project would take approximately 5-7 years to complete, with the first occupant building going up by 2010. He noted that Bass Pro Shops is included on the estimated tenant list.
Finally, Mayor Filipek and each member of Council all wished Bellmawr residents a Happy Holiday and Healthy New Year.
