Lady Roadrunners Steal the Show

Media release

On a day when all the Roadrunner winter sports teams were in action it was the women's basketball team that stole the show by breaking the school record for points scored in a game. The 103 point effort marked the first time that the women's program has broken the 100 point barrier. The team scored 49 first half points and then rolled to victory in the second half by scoring a remarkable 54.

Caitlyn Van Wagner was the leading scorer in the game with 21 points. The sophomore set her single season high with that effort. She is a Clearview graduate that transferred to GCC from Salem CC this summer. Freshman Roxanne Gough, who leads the team in scoring for the season followed with 19 points and four other Roadrunners scored in double figures on the day including sophomore Lisa Wilmer who scored the basket to break the century mark.

The Roadrunners are off until Thursday when they will face Atlantic Cape Community College.

In other action:

The wrestling team faced their toughest dual match on the season against defending national champions Nassau CC from New York. The first two matches were dead even after three periods and had to go to overtime. However, Nassau came up with the critical points in those matches and then cruised to a 38-3 victory.

The lone winner for the Roadrunners was 141 pounder Terrence Hunter, a freshman from Millville HS.
