Bloomsburg's Cooper Named Player of the Year by TD Club of South Jersey

media release

BLOOMSBURG-Bloomsburg University junior corner back Cooper Jesse Cooper (Sewell, NJ/Washington Township) has been named the Division II Player of the Year by the Touchdown Club of Southern New Jersey.

The Touchdown Club of Southern New Jersey was organized in 1968 to provide recognition to football players, cheerleaders, coaches and training personnel that hail from the southern New Jersey region.

Cooper emerged as one of the most dynamic players in the PSAC and the nation this season. Cooper finished first in the PSAC and sixth nationally in kickoff returns, averaging 30.65 yards per-return.

Cooper logged 38 tackles, 29 of them solo, to go along with nine pass break-ups and a blocked kick. He also had a kick-off return for a touchdown and a blocked field goal. Cooper was named first team PSAC-East as both a cornerback and a kick returner.

NCAA Division I Players of the Year are senior safety Anthony Scirrotto of Penn State (West Deptford graduate) and offensive tackle Phil Trautwein of the University of Florida (Eastern Regional). The Division I Football Championship Subdivision (previously I-AA) players are senior quarterback Anthony Orio of Northeastern (Eastern Regional) and senior offensive tackle Nick LoCastro of Monmouth University (Gateway Regional). The Division III honoree is senior safety Chris Baldwin of Johns Hopkins University (Bishop Eustace Prep).

Cooper will be honored by The Touchdown Club at its 41st annual Awards Banquet on Wednesday, Dec. 17, at the Woodbury Country Club.
