SOUTH PHILLY:Police Report

Still wanted

A local man is still being sought by the Homicide Fugitive Squad for allegedly killing a 23-year-old over a card game Easter Sunday in East Falls.

Police believe Hanh Nguyen, 21, from the 1800 block of South 17th Street, is still in South Philly, Homicide Fugitive Squad Detective Mike Cahill told the Review.

After allegedly shooting Bao Nguyen of Olney over a gambling dispute at about 2:45 a.m. March 23 inside Phoung Thanh Cafe, 5207 N. Fifth St., Nguyen fled the scene while other players dragged the gravely wounded man to the sidewalk and tried to clean the room of blood from the gunshot blast to his chest, Cahill said. A medic took the injured man to Albert Einstein Medical Center, where he died at 3:09 a.m. The victim and wanted man are not related, police said.

Being a former convict prohibits Nguyen from having a firearm, so three of the Violation of the Uniform Firearms Act offenses he faces in addition to murder are a former convict in possession, no license and carrying on the street.

Nguyen was described as Asian, about 5-foot-6, 120 pounds with brown eyes and brown hair.
