McGREGOR RANGE, N.M. -- Stretching into the eastern and western horizons, about 3,000 New Jersey Army National Guard soldiers stood in units eight across and as many as 15 deep Friday during a departure ceremony that signaled an end to training and the beginning of a 10-month deployment to Iraq.
It is the largest deployment of New Jersey Army National Guard soldiers since World War II, said Maj. Gen. Mark A. Graham, commander of Division West.
