Hillsborough star runner Jason Walton struck, killed by train

An elite runner at Hillsborough High School who last month was named the Courier News Boys Track and Field Athlete of the Year died Tuesday night when he was struck by a train, authorities confirmed today. Advertisement

Jason Walton, 18, described by one coach as "tremendously focused and so easy to coach it's ridiculous," was killed by a train at 5:48 p.m. Tuesday on the Norfolk Southern tracks about 500 feet west of Beekman Lane, authorities said.

Walton was entering his senior year.
