The Trinity United Methodist Church at Eighth and Division Streets in Gloucester City has announced the appointment of its new pastor, the Rev. Dr. Richard G. Leaver. Dr. Leaver is a Gloucester resident who at one time was employed as a supervisor at the John-Jeffrey Corporation on Charles Street. The state notified the city earlier this month. This year’s 2008-2009 proposed budget totals $16,439,000 or $613,313 more than last year's budget of $15,825,687. Under the proposed plan introduced in April the local purpose tax was to increase by 41 cents per $100 of assessed valuation. I graduated from St. Mary's Catholic High School in 1943. The same year, I received notice that I was drafted in the U.S. Army. Sister sent a letter to the draft board asking that I could graduate before entering the army. As long as I kept up my grades and maintained good averages, I was allowed to graduate.
