ROWAN STUDENT-ATHLETES COLLECT MORE POSTSEASON HONORS

GLASSBORO, NJ – Rowan University had three players named to the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) All-Star Teams.

 Left hander Ryan Kulik (sr. Marlton, NJ/Cherokee) was selected the ECAC Metro Region and National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) Mid-Atlantic Player of the Year. Right fielder John McMullin (jr. Woodbury, NJ/Gloucester Catholic) and Kulik were chosen to the ECAC Baseball Metro All-Star Team, while right fielder Heidi Smith (so. Hainesport, NJ/Rancocas Valley Reg.) collected ECAC Softball Metro All-Star Team honors.

Kulik was selected by the St. Louis Cardinals with the 245th pick in the eighth round of the Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft. In four years at Rowan, Kulik compiled a 29-10 record with a 2.81 earned run average (ERA) and 337 strikeouts. He holds the school records for strikeouts in a game (15), season (144) and career (337), strikeouts per nine innings in a season (13.77) and career innings pitched (330.0). Kulik is also tied for first with 49 career starts.

 This season, Kulik led the Profs with a 10-2 record. He posted a 1.72 ERA and 144 strikeouts. Kulik finished first in Division III in strikeouts (144) and strikeouts per nine innings (13.74). He was 10th in fewest hits allowed per nine innings (5.82), tied for 11th in victories (10) and 18th in ERA (1.72). 

This year, Kulik was selected the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) and New Jersey Collegiate Baseball Coaches Association (NJCBA) Division II/III Pitcher of the Year. He was named to the NJAC All-Conference and NJCBA All-State first teams. Kulik earned American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA)-Rawlings All-America and Mid-Atlantic All-Region first team honors. He was also chosen the NJAC Male Athlete of the Year.

 In his first season, McMullin was Rowan’s top hitter with a .394 batting average, 16 doubles and 58 RBIs. He compiled 44 runs scored, eight home runs and two triples. McMullin recorded a .611 slugging percentage and a .439 on-base percentage. He was tied for 11th in the national statistics in hits (80), tied for 23rd in total bases (124) and tied for 28th in RBIs (58). McMullin was an ABCA-Rawlings Mid-Atlantic All-Region and NJCBA All-State first team and a NJAC All-Conference second team selection.

 Smith was the Profs’ leading hitter with a .413 batting average. She was also first on the team in hits (62), RBIs (37) and doubles (17). She had a .620 slugging percentage and scored 32 runs. A two-year starter, Smith has a .395 career batting average with 53 RBIs, 50 runs scored, 25 doubles, seven triples and three home runs. She received Louisville Slugger/National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) All-America and East All-Region and NJAC All-Conference first team honor this season.
