The idea of corporate naming rights is becoming more popular throughout the country. A story in the New York Times last highlighted three examples.

Four years ago, ShopRite gave Brooklawn, N.J., $100,000 toward the high school's new gym, named the ShopRite of Brooklawn Center. Rust-Oleum gave $100,000 to a Chicago suburb for “Rust-Oleum Field.” And for $500,000, the Everglades High School football stadium in Florida bears the name of Eastern Financial Florida Credit Union.

The Times reported that corporate sponsorship goes beyond athletic facilities, all the way to advertisements on school buses.

This is the financial future of public education.
