Thursday, November 29, 2007
Carlisle, PA… The College of New Jersey women’s basketball team picked up its fourth win of the season as the Lions held off host Dickinson College 66-63 on Thursday.
The Red Devils (3-2) got the early jump on the Lions racing out to an 11-3 lead, but the TCNJ (4-1) regrouped and finished the opening half strong going on a 24-10 run over the final 14:09 of the period to hold a 27-21 lead at the break.
In the second half, Dickinson again got off to a fast start scoring 10 of the first 14 points to knot the game at 31-31. A pair of buckets by freshman Kelsey Kutch (Hillsborough, NJ/Hillsborough) helped the Lions take the lead for good as TCNJ went on a 7-0 spurt after the hosts tied the game and never looked back.
The 66 points scored by the Lions were the most allowed by the Red Devils this season as they had been allowing only 44.8 points per game.
TCNJ had a very balanced offensive attack as nine different players scored led by center Hillary Klimowicz (Scotch Plains, NJ/Scotch Plains-Fanwood) as the junior finished with her fourth double-double of the year with 16 points and 12 rebounds.
Kutch added 11 points for the Lions, while Sara Best (High Bridge, NJ/Voorhees) netted a season-high 10 points.
The Lions are on the road again on Saturday, December 1 heading to Catholic University for a 3 p.m. tip-off.
