Matt Hunter was promoted today to interim head basketball coach at The College of New Jersey.

He replaces John Castaldo, who resigned to become the Lions' interim director of athletics.

"Matt's work ethic is second to none and that -- combined with his organizational skills, recruiting efforts of prospective student-athletes and his understanding that coaching takes place on and off the court -- enables Matt to be well prepared for this interim position," Castaldo said.

Hunter, a Plainsboro resident, played basketball at Salisbury University, graduating in May 2005.

"I am extremely eager to begin working with our returning and recruited players in all aspects of their development as students and athletes," said Hunter, who will be entering his third season working on the Lions' bench.

The College of New Jersey, located in Ewing, has earned New Jersey Athletic Conference playoffs bids the past two seasons.
