from 15rounds.com By Michael Swann Regular readers may recall our three part series on the life and career of Bobby Czyz that ran in this column a couple of months ago. As we concluded our sessions of interviews, Bobby told me that he was going to be traveling to South Carolina that week for a ring announcing gig that week. Interviewing Czyz was a pleasure. He was full of anecdotes and war stories, but most importantly, I was impressed with the degree of candor that he expressed during our talks, often baring open his soul when discussing painful issues in...

I let my wife out to comfort my son and his friends and then took off after this kid. As I was driving on Browning Road I spotted this kid and called Gaetano's and...

What I can't understand is how starting pitcher Zach Braddock, outfielder/first baseman Michael Brantley, outfielder Chuckie Caufield and third baseman Taylor Green were left off the South Atlantic League All-Star team. Braddock played baseball at Gloucester Catholic and for the Brooklawn American Legion. Consider: N Braddock owns a 3-1 record and 1.21 earned run average with 66 strikeouts compared to 14 walks in 44 2/3 innings. Opponents are hitting .166 against him. He doesn't have enough innings pitched because of his recent stint on the disabled list with tendonitis. Otherwise, his strikeouts per nine innings rate (13.31) would lead minor...

continued Challenging the Board and District administration, asking if everything was done in order to reduce the impact of the recent layoffs - is a good thing. That is a right protected by the First Amendment. The School Board and the Administration should have considered every option before reducing the staff by 17%. If the Board of Education had been asked that question, and if then those who had questions had then listened to their answer, they would have discovered the following: Once finalized that the School District had to cut $7.2 million from next year's budget, the District administrators...

WHEN EAST MEETS WEST Commentary By Hank F. Miller Jr. It always surprises me that with year after year of rainy seasons, the Japanese aren't better prepared for it. They slog through the rain and puddles with just umbrellas and arrive at work hurried in soaked pants legs and water logged shoes. No one bothers to wear rain boots or galoshes. Umbrellas and umbels only, rule. The wise person treats his umbrella as a sword. The umbrella is used only to defend against the rain, but when it is closed can effectively be used to secure a seat on the...
