Couple all alone at Kmart

Lone Couple Waits For Hours Outside of Kmart To Buy Video Game Tom and Dawn Ambrose, of Shamong staked their claim late Wednesday night for the Friday release of Sony's PlayStation 3 video game system in front of the Kmart in Brooklawn. In fact, they were the only people in line on Thursday afternoon since the store only had one to sell. According to the Ambrose’s, there were eight people in line besides themselves but they went elsewhere after the store manager told some of the others who were waiting the store only received one system. Posted on the front door of the store was a sign that read Kmart regrets they didn't receive the allotment they were promised by the game manufacture. And they had no systems to sell. When a reporter from ClearysNotebook pointed to the sign the Ambroses said they were assured they would get the one... Read more →

Missing playoffs isn't a deterrent Wednesday, November 15, 2006 By Scott [email protected] Those players who best took advantage of those opportunities and were nominated by their coaches were honored at the Woodbury Country Club for Tuesday's meeting of the Touchdown Club of Southern New Jersey. Among them was Gloucester senior running back Brandon McElwee, who exploded for 250 yards on 26 carries and scored three touchdowns as the Lions improved to 4-5 and won their second straight game, 27-14, over Audubon. McElwee also registered 12 tackles, eight solo, and forced a fumble at safety. His reasoning was quite simple. "Knowing that our coach (Leon Harris) never had a losing season, that gave us motivation, to keep his streak," McElwee said. "We can still get a .500 record, we've got our last game in two weeks. So we knew we had to win this one for him. Read more Read more →

Only one of the 10 winters that followed a 8 day plus streak had colder than normal weather -- and that was 1993-1994. The rest of the winters were at least normal to above normal for temperatures. We should see our 9th day of 60+ tomorrow with another day of clouds and very limited sun. A few places will also see some showers in the afternoon. Mt Ephraim Mayor Says Post Office Will Be Rebuilt By Linda Boker-Angelo NEWS Correspondent Mount Ephraim Mayor Michael Reader said at the recent Boro Commissioners meeting that he has heard a buzz that the Borough’s post office will be rebuilt. Reader insisted that nothing is definite until the municipality receives formal notification from the United States Postal Service, but Commissioners Anthony Chambers and Suzanne Gaglianone speculated that a trailer or modular unit would be set up for local use. Gaglianone commended the people who work in the Borough’s tax office for their hard work and dedication. The commissioner said that the women in the Borough office often times do not get the recognition that they deserve because they work behind the scenes, out of the public eye. Gaglianone also stated that the commissioners are working very hard to give the residents the most possible services for their tax dollars. She... Read more →

It reads as follows: I’ve been reading about the founding of the Lake Association in the Gloucester City News. I would like to give you the history. My husband Charles and I purchased our home on Baynes Avenue in October 2000. Shortly after this purchase, Charles realized that the area around the lake was neglected and overgrown with weeds, brush, and trash. It was desperately in need of a major cleanup. We had met our neighbor, Nick Marchese about one month before we moved in. Also, we had started to maintain the area around the lake as the previous owner was unable to accomplish this large task by herself. BILLS OPINION

DOES ANYONE REALLY KNOW WHAT THEY ARE DOING? As I drove by the former Weisgerber property at Klemm Ave and Johnson Blvd., Gloucester City, I noticed three or more big tractor and trailers carrying what looks like oil drilling equipment. Flagmen were directing traffic on Klemm Avenue and on Johnson Blvd. The trucks were being unloaded in the heavy rain that was falling. Thursday, November 16 the Johnson Blvd. was closed to all traffic. The beautiful home that once stood there on the point is now gone. In its place is a colossal devastating project that has brought noise and pollution to a once tranquil neighborhood. Yet there is never any information being publicized about what is actually being done at the site from the City or those in the federal government that are running the project. I know it is a site that thorium was found to be located.... Read more →

Gloucester City Council meeting

City Council Amends Redevelopment Plan By Megan Paolini NEWS Correspondent Gloucester City Council Meeting approved an ordinance on second reading last Thursday Nov. 2, implementing an amended plan for the former Coast Guard base redevelopment area. This new redevelopment plan is consistent with the Southport redevelopment project. Developer Sean Scarborough said his company hopes to build 150 condominiums on the pier and surrounding area along the Delaware River. Costs for the housing units will range from $200,000 to $500,000. Councilman Raymond Coxe abstained during the voting of this ordinance. An ordinance establishing storm water control was passed on second reading, to bring it up to standards required by the state of New Jersey. Gloucester City's own bird santuary

One of my favorite spring and autumn memories ever since my early childhood was hearing the honk of the Canada Geese. I'd peer up at the sky and look for the telltale V-formation of the flock of geese returning to Canada for the summer or leaving for the winter. Funny how plentiful they are today. There was a time when the bird was on the endanged species list. Our family would ride to Bombay Hook in Delaware each fall to watch the 1000's of geese flying south stop off at the Waterfowl refuge. Canada Geese are waterfowl that live throughout most of North America. They are famous for their life-long mating, though a widowed goose will usually choose another mate. The photo was taken recently at the Minnie Hole, Highland Blvd. Gloucester City Read more →

Nov. 7th Gloucester voters sent a message!

The Democrat’s Party Machine Was Broken! By William E. Cleary Some die hard Democrats in Gloucester City would tell you what happened in last Tuesday’s election was a fluke. To have three unknowns (William James, Nick Marchese and Jay Brophy) with no political experience defeat a well-organized Camden County Democrat machine could never happen again. To have a Gloucester City resident running for Sheriff (Chuck Billingham) who received 2500 votes plus but was unable to carry the local candidates on his coattail to victory was a once in a blue moon occurrence. Furthermore to have these same three political novices win the local election after the Camden County Democrat Machine held a political rally in Gloucester City featuring a national figure like Senator Kennedy; well their win was a one in a million chance. Well I believe they (The Democrat Machine) would be wise to pay heed. *The people had... Read more →

44,111 Fans Watch Scarlet Knights

For one night, New Jersey takes center stage PISCATAWAY, N.J. (AP) -- The biggest game in Rutgers' long football history produced what surely was the biggest celebration the school has ever seen. A large portion of the record crowd of 44,111 wound up on the field in a wild scene following the No. 15 Scarlet Knights' 28-25 win over No. 3 Louisville Thursday night. Fans streamed onto the field from all sides, including the temporary bleachers in the south end zone that had been erected specifically for this game. They covered the field as music blared and a cannon perched on a hill outside one corner of the stadium boomed. A primary target of their affection was Jeremy Ito, the junior kicker who converted a 28-yard field goal with 13 seconds left for the decisive points. They pummeled him and eventually raised him off the ground and sent him bobbing... Read more →

Rice ready to run

Rutgers' Ray Rice Ready to Run submitted by VonBudel 23 hours ago (from http://www.nj.com/rutgersfootball/l...) Last week against UCONN, Rice's ankle got crushed late in the 4th quarter (after he should have been pulled) and he was forced to leave the game. But don't worry Rutgers fans, Ray Rice feels great and will be ready to go for Thursday's game against Louisville. A Rutgers assistant confirmed that Rice will be fine in a conversation with me on Saturday. Rice has averaged almost 28 carries and 150 yards a game during Rutgers' 8-0 start. The "bye" week couldn't have come at a better time for Rutgers.
