Obit Abate

Canio R. Abate WW II Veteran; Brooklawn American Legion Member, Services Sunday evening

Canio R. Abate, age 86, of Brooklawn, passed away on November 23, 2006. Funeral services will be held Sunday evening.

Mr. Abate served as a Corporal in the United States Air Force during World War II where he was awarded the European-African Middle Eastern Service Medal and Good Conduct Medal. Canio worked for Majestic Wines and Spirits, which is now part of Allied Beverage, for 38 years until his retirement in 1985.

Canio was a member of the Brooklawn American Legion Post 72 and enjoyed dancing, gardening and going to Atlantic City, but his true passion was his time spent with his family, especially his wife, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He will be remembered as a loving, generous, ambitious, sociable and 'happy-go-lucky' man that was deeply loved and will be truly missed.

Beloved husband of 60 years to Elizabeth (nee Mevoli) Devoted father of Catherine (Al) Decker, Canio Abate, Arlene (Kevin) Carpenter, Joseph (Mary Anna) Abate and Robert Abate. Dear brother of Ellen Abate. Grandfather of 10. Great grandfather of 2.
Born and raised in Camden, Canio moved to Brooklawn where he has lived for the past 39 years.

The viewing will be held 7:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. in the McGUINNESS FUNERAL HOME, 573 Egg Harbor Road, Washington Twp. Memorial Service 8:30 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in Canio's memory be made to the Nursing Scholarship Fund, Underwood Memorial Hospital, 509 N. Broad Street, Woodbury, NJ 08096
