On August 28, 2006. Of Gloucester City. Age 64. Surrounded by his loving and devoted wife of 22 years, Katherine “Kay” A. (nee McKernan). Beloved Son of the late Joseph J. Ferry, Jr. and Irene V. ( nee Phillips). Beloved father of Michelle Ferry McDonald (Walter) of Brooklawn, James E. Ferry, Jr. (Kellie) of Gloucester City, Marie Phillips (Will) of Deptford. Caring Step-father of Michelle Wirt (Greg) of Gloucester City. Loving grandfather of Brittany, Brighton, Walter, Amanda, Sarah, Meghan, Kaitlynn “Kate May”, Abaigeal, Keith Jr., Kevin, Korey, Justin, Marc, Cody and Sydney Kay. Dear Brother of Joseph J. “Jay” Ferry III of Florida, John “Jan” Ferry (Margo) of Elk Township, Francis “Franny” Ferry (Diana) of Sewell, Margaret “Peg E” Ferry of Gloucester City, Mary Helen Young (Don) of Voorhees and the late Harry P. Ferry. Jim was born, raised and lived his entire 64 years in Gloucester City.
He was truly a good old “Gloucester Boy” in every sense of the word. In July 1971, he started the Ferry Fence Company on 7th Street and Jersey Avenue in Gloucester City and it remains to this day under his leadership and hard work a very successful company. Jim was a lifelong parishioner of Saint Mary’s R.C. Church in Gloucester City. He was an active member of the Gloucester City Business Association currently serving as a Board of Director and Sergeant-At-Arms. Jim was formerly a longtime member of the Gloucester City Chamber of Commerce. Jim was also active in the Gloucester City Democrat Club, member of the Sportsmen A.C. in Gloucester City and a former member of the Gloucester City Jaycees. He was a retired member for 45 years of Teamsters Local 676 in Collingswood, serving as Vice-President. Jim has been a member of the Deptford Elks Club since 1985. He owned Ferry’s Seafood Restaurant on Broadway in Gloucester City and the Ferry’s Slip Inn in Brooklawn.
Relatives, friends, co-workers, Union members and all organizations are kindly invited to attend his viewing on Friday Evening from 6 pm to 10 pm and Saturday morning from 8:30 am to 10 am at the McCANN-HEALEY FUNERAL HOME: 851 Monmouth Street (at Brown Street) Gloucester City. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11:30 am at Saint Mary’s R.C. Church: 426 Monmouth Street, (at Atlantic Street) Gloucester City. Entombment New Saint Mary’s Mausoleum, Bellmawr. Family requests in lieu of flowers, memorial donations be made in Jim’s memory to Saint Mary’s Tuition Fund: 426 Monmouth Street, Gloucester City, NJ 08030.
