GLOUCESTER CITY, NJ (January 8, 2018)--In the early morning hours of January 4th, Gloucester City Fire Department Squad 51 responded to a report of a dwelling fire on the 800 block of E. Brown Street.
Upon arrival.,l there was heavy black smoke billowing from the Chimney. Squad company stretched 200 ft. of 1 3/4″ line and was able to quickly extinguish the fire which was contained to the heater. There were no injuries and all occupants were accounted for.
In other matters,
Just prior to 1300 hrs on January 4th, Task Force 7 was dispatched to the 200 Block of Edgewater Avenue for the reported Dwelling Fire. County communications quickly notified Chief 701 that they had received several calls reporting the house on fire and the assignment was upgraded to the working fire dispatch. Chief 701 arrived confirming the reports. Engine Co 733 arrived and operated a single 1-3/4” water line, Quint 51 (Gloucester City) arrived and assisted with searches and overhaul. Engine Co. 812 (National Park) arrived and secured a water supply for Engine Co. 733 and assisted on the fire ground. Additional companies also assisted with various fire ground tasks. The fire was quickly brought under control, which occurred during Winter Storm Grayson. A quick response helped prevent a possible serious fire event with the houses along Big Timber Creek being in very close proximity to each other and a steady 30-40 mph wind coming off the the creek. Additional companies on the fire ground were from Bellmawr Sta. 32, Colonial Manor Sta. 63, Verga Sta. 62, Deptford EMS 9-9 and the GC Fire Marshal’s Office.
