FACEBOOK LIVE TO BE USED FOR N.J. GUBERNATORIAL DEBATES
If you want to watch the first New Jersey gubernatorial debates next month, you'll have to log in to Facebook. The Record says the first two primary debates – one for the Democrats and one for Republicans – will take place on May 9 at Stockton University in Atlantic County and will be broadcast via Facebook Live. The following debates will be broadcast by NJTV, NJ Spotlight, WNET and C-SPAN.
NJ CHIEF JUSTICE WANTS ICE TO STOP ARRESTING IMMIGRANTS IN COURTHOUSES
The Chief Justice of the New Jersey Supreme Court is calling on the federal Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency to stop arresting immigrants in courthouses. WBGO says Chief Justice Stuart Rabner sent a letter to the Homeland Security Secretary urging him to consider the potential chilling effect that such arrests could have on witnesses to violent crimes or victims of domestic violence, who may not want to show up in court for fear of being arrested for a civil immigration violation.
NEWARK AIRPORT TO GET NEW TERMINAL A
Terminal A is the oldest of Newark Airport's three terminals, and it's getting an upgrade. NJTV says the Port Authority's vision for a new T-shaped, one-million-square-foot terminal will handle up to 13 million passengers through 33 gates, which marks a 50 percent increase in capacity.
GUADAGNO PROPOSAL FOR PROPERTY TAX RELIEF
Lieutenant governor and Republican gubernatorial frontrunner Kim Guadagno is proposing a property tax relief plan, and it's surprisingly detailed. WBGO says Guadagno's plan includes a credit of up to $3,000 to homeowners who pay more than 5 percent of their household income toward the school portion of their property tax.
CIATTARELLI PUSHES FOR NJ TRANSIT, GATEWAY FUNDING
The other major GOP gubernatorial player, Republican Assemblyman Jack Ciattarelli, said Wednesday that he believes funding for NJ Transit should be the "first and foremost" priority now that money from the recent gas tax increase is starting to come in. The Record says Ciattarelli also claims to have a plan to pay for the Gateway Tunnel project if President Trump decides to follow through on his promise to strip funding for the project.
U.S. REP LOBIONDO TOWN HALL FINALLY HAPPENED – WITHOUT LOBIONDO
A long-awaited town hall meeting with Rep. Frank LoBiondo's constituents in New Jersey's Second Congressional District finally took place on Tuesday night. The only problem was that LoBiondo wasn't there. Philly.com says a group called Cooper River Indivisible hosted the meeting and invited LoBiondo, but LoBiondo declined the invitation and did not attend, claiming that he prefers to meet with his constituents privately and in small groups.
