GLOUCESTER CITY, NJ (April 17, 2017)--A number of people living on the west side of Gloucester City were cited recently by the City Housing Office for such items as (image above) property needs to be painted, broken sidewalks, the roof needs repair/replacement etc. They were given seven days to begin the repair (s) or court action would be taken.
For those who qualify Camden County Department of Community Development has a program available, the Home Improvement Program (HIP), to help residents pay for these types of repairs.
According to their website, the HIP provides financial assistance of up to $20,000 toward home rehabilitation for eligible homeowners in Camden County. Financial assistance is awarded in the form of a no-interest, deferred payment loan. Rehabilitation services must be needs that put the property at risk for the code violation.
Types of rehabilitation include:
- Plumbing
- Heating
- Electrical
- Structural
- Roofing
Ordinary repairs and general maintenance of homes do not qualify for services. In addition to financial assistance, HIP also provides inspections before, during, and after the work is done to help the homeowner choose and follow up with their contractor.
Fees:
The loan is not repaid until the property is sold or transferred. Please call for more information.
Eligibility:
Open to Camden County homeowners except for those in the City of Camden and Gloucester Township. Applicants be a homeowner residing in their home (owner-occupant) and meet income eligibility restrictions.

Because there is a waiting list for the HIP program it is suggested that those individuals who were cited by the City Housing Office that they should call that department {(856) 456-7689} and ask them how you can get an extension as you want to apply for the HIP loan.
