ST. PETERSBURG, FL. (April 20, 2017)(CNBNewsnet)--Gloucester Catholic Varsity (Gloucester
City, NJ) defeated Lehigh Senior High School 17-7 in a back-and-forth affair on Thursday at the Walter Fuller Sports Complex in St. Petersburg, Florida. The Rams earned the victory despite allowing Lehigh Senior to score five runs in the 5th inning.
Reliever John Kasper earned the win for the Rams. He tossed two innings, giving up zero runs, zero hits, striking out two and walking one. Drew Guldin started the game for Catholic. He pitched four innings, surrendering seven runs, seven hits, striking out two, and walking one.
Sam Punzi, Jason Bobiak, and Chris Turco each collected multiple hits for Gloucester Catholic. Punzi led the Rams with three hits in four at-bats.
“Another great win”, said Gloucester Catholic Coach Adam Tussey, when asked about his team’s comeback. “We were down 7-2 at one point, the team didn’t panic. John Kasper did a splendid job out of the bullpen to keep them at 7 runs, and our bats woke up. The team we played was young. Mostly high school sophomore and juniors. Their starting pitcher was tough. We got to him two times through the lineup though.”
