Dr, Richard Selznick, Director of the Cooper Learning Center, a part of the Cooper University Hospital, has announced that the Learning Center, in cooperation with the Brooklawn Public School District, has received a grant of $10,000 from the Stan McKee Reading Foundation. This funding will be used to provide supplemental assessment and intervention for Brooklawn students who show signs of mild, moderate, and severe dyslexia/reading disability.
The Stan McKee Reading Foundation was established by Penny McKee, a former first grade teacher and mother of two, in honor of her father, who was a elementary principal for more than forty years and a education/literacy professor. The mission of the Stan McKee Reading Foundation (SMRF) is to raise funds to support dyslexic children from needy families. It is the hope of SMRF that by providing students with specialized dyslexia tutors, a child’s life experience can be changed through the gift of reading.
