BELLMAWR FIREMAN ACCUSED OF STEALING $37000 / CBS3

By Jericka Duncan

BELLMAWR, N.J. (CBS) – A volunteer firefighter in Bellmawr, Camden County is facing charges after he was accused of committing crimes against his own department.

According to police, 22-year-old Chad Jurman is charged with theft, forgery and official misconduct.

Bellmawr Police say Jurman admitted to authorities on Friday that he stole funds from the Bellmawr Park Volunteer Fire Company, but he told CBS3 Eyewitness News he had no comment. Police say Jurman was the treasurer at the department.

According to authorities, Jurman took a little more than $37,000. Police say the theft goes back to April of last year.

On his Twitter page, Jurman describes himself as a dedicated father, firefighter and all-around hard worker, but for now he’s being called a theft by police.

Police are trying to figure out how and why a volunteer would steal from his own organization.

There are two volunteer fire departments in Bellmawr, New Jersey. Police say Station 33 is where Jurman worked and Station 32 had nothing to do with this investigation. READ MORE

Tax & Regulate Marijuana, Hawaiians Say

 By PURNA NEMANI

HONOLULU (CN) - Most Hawaiians approve of medical marijuana and want marijuana taxed and regulated, saving the state millions of dollars in enforcement and court costs, according to a recent poll.

The Drug Policy Action Group interviewed 603 Hawaii voters from Nov. 19 to Dec. last year. Only 15 percent said they opposed a 2000 state law allowing use of medical marijuana with a doctor's prescription, and 57 percent favored decriminalization of possession and use of the drug, up from 42 percent in 2005, the Drug Policy Action Group said.

It said the margin of error of its poll was 4.1 percent.

Andrews: What the Bipartisan Fiscal Cliff Deal Means for this Area

Jan 11, 2013

On New Year’s Day, I joined 256 members of Congress – both Democrats and Republicans – to approve a compromise agreement that avoided a major tax increase on most Americans. The bill is not perfect – compromises never are. But, after reading the 157-page bill and considering its effects on our community and nation, it was clear that this compromise was the most viable approach to keep income taxes low for the middle class and produce the jobs our country badly needs.

Here is what the agreement, the Taxpayer Relief Act of 2012, means to our community and our nation:

Source: Loyola University Health System

Newswise — MAYWOOD, Il. - One way to avoid injuries in young athletes may be for them to simply spend more time in unorganized free play such as pick-up games, a Loyola University Medical Study has found.

In a first-of-its-kind study, sports medicine specialist Dr. Neeru Jayanthi and colleagues found that injured young athletes who play a single sport such as tennis spent much less time in free play and unorganized sports than uninjured athletes who play tennis and many other sports.

What Became of the Brasher Doubloon?

By CHRIS FRY

NEWTON, N.J. (CN) - An appraiser gave a woman conflicting stories about her 1787 "Brasher doubloon," claiming it had "no value," then that had it been lost, then sent her a substitute coin, then that it was lost again, the woman claims in court.
Helen Swingle sued D&Y Trading, Colavita Coins and Jewelry, and D&Y employee George Funkhouser III, in Sussex County Court.
A gold Brasher doubloon sold for more than $7 million in 2011, the California coin dealer who sold it said in a statement on a public relations news site.

Human Trafficking Awareness Targeting Traffickers, Helping Victims

01/11/13

Last month, a Kentucky cardiologist and his ex-wife pled guilty to recruiting a Bolivian woman to work as their domestic servant and holding her unlawfully for nearly 15 years. The couple took her passport, threatened her with deportation, and falsely promised that her wages were being put in a bank account.

Trafficking in persons is a widespread form of modern-day slavery, and as we observe National Slavery and Human Trafficking Prevention Month, we’d like to update you on what the FBI—with its partners—is doing to go after the traffickers and help the victims.

» Obama Signs Bill Giving Him Armed Protection For Life

Paul Joseph Watson
Infowars.com
January 11, 2013

Despite launching a gun control agenda that threatens to disarm the American people, President Obama has signed a bill that would afford him armed Secret Service protection for life.

“The legislation, crafted by Republican Rep. Trey Gowdy of South Carolina, rolls back a mid-1990s law that imposed a 10-year limit on Secret Service protection for former presidents. Bush would have been the first former commander in chief affected,” reports Yahoo News.

The new bill, which will cost American taxpayers millions of dollars, is a re-instatement of a 1965 law which will see presidents protected for life as well as their children up to age 16.

The irony of Obama seeking to surround himself with armed men for the rest of his life while simultaneously working to disarm the American people via a gun control agenda that is likely to be enforced via executive decree represents the height of hypocrisy.

But it’s not the first time that Obama has lauded the notion of responsible Americans using firearms to protect himself and his family while concurrently eviscerating that very same right for the American people.

During an ABC Nightline interview broadcast on December 26 yet recorded before the Sandy Hook shooting, Obama said one of the benefits of his re-election was the ability “to have men with guns around at all times,” in order to protect his daughters.

In addition, the school attended by Obama’s daughters in Washington D.C. has no less than 11 armed security guards on duty at all times, yet the idea of arming teachers and school officials to prevent school massacres has been dismissed by gun control advocates who want school campuses to remain “gun free zones” where victims are disarmed and shooters are free to carry out their rampage unimpeded.

A heartbroken couple are calling on supermarkets to stop selling dog bones after watching their Miniature Schnauzer suffer an agonising death on Christmas day.

Anna Carey and James Lancaster thought nothing of it when a friend gave two-year-old Burtie a Bob Martin’s Premium Ham Bone, from Tesco, as a Christmas treat.

But on Christmas Eve they awoke to find their dog had been sick during the night and was unable to move without great discomfort. An X-Ray at the vets revealed fragments of bone had become lodged in the dog’s stomach and intestines.

NEWARK, Del. - - Looking to three-peat the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Tournament, the Wilmington University baseball team has set up a tough nonconference schedule in order to prepare for the postseason, as the Wildcats unveil their 2013 schedule.

Ninth year head coach Brian August set out to prepare his team for the postseason once again, as the Wildcats will play 16 out of its 48 games against teams that were voted to the 2013 Collegiate Baseball Newspaper Preseason Poll, or received votes. The Wildcats will also compete against two NCAA Division I programs throughout the season. Wilmington received one vote in the preseason poll.

Acme Store Closings Predicted | Philadelphia Business Journal

Acme Supermarkets’ buyer would have to spend heavily to reverse the chain’s fortunes, an analyst said.

Cerberus Capital Management will pay $100 million and assume $3.2 billion in debt to take over five supermarket chains — Acme, Jewel/Osco, Shaw’s, Albertson’s and Star Market. Seller Supervalu (NYSE:SVU) paid $12 billion for the stores in 2006.

Malvern, Pa.-based Acme — with 94 stores and $2.1 billion in sales — is in need of an overhaul to stem recent market-share declines, Jeff Metzler, publisher of Food Trade News, told me Thursday.

“The stores are too small, they’re pricey, the morale of the associates is apathetic, the merchandising has no sizzle. It would cost hundreds of millions of dollars to get back in shape,” Metzler said of Acme, once the area’s supermarket leader but now third in market share. “Will [Cerberus] invest heavy capital in Acme? I don’t think so.”

Metzler didn’t rule out the possibility that Cerberus might turn around and try to resell Acme.

At the very least, he said, he expects an owner to close older stores and try to reduce expenses, which include payroll for a unionized workforce of 13,000 people.

SOUND OFF: UPSET WITH SENATOR MADDEN

To the Editor:

I am the cousin of Nicole Ayres. As you know, Nicole, 22, of Deptford Township, was Images murdered on Sept. 13, 2010, by Stephen Headley (who pleaded guilty to first-degree murder).

I am writing about how my family was treated by my local state senator, Fred Madden, during this trying time. I want people to know that I reached out to Madden for support with the court case when it was probable that the Superior Court judge in Burlington County was going to sentence Headley, now 30, to only 30 years in prison.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY!

After being interviewed by the school administration, the prospective teacher said:

'Let me see if I've got this right.

'You want me to go into that room with all those kids, correct their disruptive behavior, observe them for signs of abuse, monitor their dress habits, censor their T-shirt messages, and instill in them a love for learning.

'You want me to check their backpacks for weapons, wage war on drugs and sexually transmitted diseases, and raise their sense of self esteem and personal pride.

'You want me to teach them patriotism and good citizenship, sportsmanship and fair play, and how to register to vote, balance a checkbook, and apply for a job.

'You want me to check their heads for lice, recognize signs of antisocial behavior, and make sure that they all pass the final exams.

'You also want me to provide them with an equal education regardless of their handicaps, and communicate regularly with their parents in English, Spanish or any other language, by letter, telephone, newsletter, and report card.

'You want me to do all this with a piece of chalk, a blackboard, a bulletin board, a few books, a big smile, and a starting salary that qualifies me for food stamps.

'You want me to do all this, and then you tell me......

I CAN'T PRAY?'

Deptford Police Officer Charged with Murder in Connection with Shooting Incident

UPDATE

Gloucester County Prosecutors Office press release

WOODBURY NJ (January 11, 2013)-With the death overnight of 27-year-old David Compton, of Woodbury, Deptford Township Police Officer James Stuart   (DOB 11/25/83) has been charged with first-degree murder in connection with a shooting on 1/5/13 at Stuart’s Deptford residence that fatally wounded Compton.

Stuart was taken into custody today  (1/11).  Bail on the homicide charge was set at $250,000. Initially it was set at $500,000, but after a further review of the defendant’s circumstances, the court changed the amount to $250,000. The purpose of bail is to insure the defendant’s appearance in court when required.

Compton, who sustained a single gunshot wound to the head, was removed from life support and died about 1 a.m. today (1/11).

Stuart was initially charged by the Gloucester County Prosecutor’s Office on 1/5/13 with two counts of aggravated assault as a result of the incident at 262 Stanford Avenue.  He posted $10,000 bail on those charges and the five-year officer was suspended from the Deptford Township Police Department with pay.

Compton had remained in critical condition in the trauma unit of Cooper Medical Center in Camden since the 5 a.m. incident, reported to police by Stuart.

An investigation of the incident established that the officer and victim had known each other for several years and that the shooting incident was not random.

Because an investigation into the shooting is ongoing, no further details will be released at this time.

CREW: The House Ethics Committee Ineffectual and Incompetent

Congress, Corruption, Ethics, House Ethics Committee, Most Corrupt, States, New York, Press Releases, House Members, Gregory Meeks

Rep. Gregory Meeks (D-NY)

Washington, D.C. — Today, in response to the House Ethics Committee’s decision to close its investigation into Rep. Gregory Meeks’ (D-NY) failure to disclose a loan, CREW Executive Director Melanie Sloan released the following statement:

“The House Ethics Committee — generally ineffectual and incompetent — has outdone itself with today’s decision.  Rep. Meeks’ claim that he unintentionally left a $40,000 loan off of his financial disclosure for three years because he didn’t know he had to disclose liabilities defies credibility, particularly as the form includes instructions.  The committee’s decision to accept this ridiculous explanation at face value essentially guts the Ethics in Government Act as it applies to members of the House, signaling that members who disingenuously claim to have made an honest mistake by failing to include information will be taken at their word, no matter what evidence exists to the contrary.

» Marine Sends Letter to Feinstein Regarding Gun Control | GOPUSA

Sometimes someone just gets it right. Whether it is in a speech, an interview, or, in this case, a letter, there are times when the person says exactly what others are feeling, but in a way that makes complete sense. That is what happened when a Marine sent a letter to Sen. Dianne Feinstein regarding proposed gun control legislation.

Here is the text of the letter as supplied by Fox News from Marine Cpl. Joshua Boston:

Senator Dianne Feinstein,

I will not register my weapons should this bill be passed, as I do not believe it is the government’s right to know what I own. Nor do I think it prudent to tell you what I own so that it may be taken from me by a group of people who enjoy armed protection yet decry me having the same a crime. You ma’am have overstepped a line that is not your domain. I am a Marine Corps Veteran of 8 years, and I will not have some woman who proclaims the evil of an inanimate object, yet carries one, tell me I may not have one.

I am not your subject. I am the man who keeps you free. I am not your servant. I am the person whom you serve. I am not your peasant. I am the flesh and blood of America. I am the man who fought for my country. I am the man who learned. I am an American. You will not tell me that I must register my semi-automatic AR-15 because of the actions of some evil man.

I will not be disarmed to suit the fear that has been established by the media and your misinformation campaign against the American public.

We, the people, deserve better than you.

Respectfully Submitted,
Joshua Boston
Cpl, United States Marine Corps
2004-2012

No one should be a "subject" of the federal government. The government was designed to serve America, and now it is out of control.

Food Tank Launches: Time To Change the Food System

PRESS RELEASE
There’s no doubt that the food system is broken. More than 1 billion people are obese; nearly 1 billion people go to bed hungry every night; at least 2 billion people suffer from micronutrient deficiencies; and food price speculation and massive consolidation of farms and companies has led to price spikes and poverty in the developing world. The impacts of climate change and decades of disregard for soil and water health are becoming increasingly evident, leading to drought and disease from Iowa to Niger; and investment in agriculture continues to emphasize quantity over quality.

What a New Doctor Learned About Medical Mistakes From Her Mom’s Death

by Marshall Allen
ProPublica, Jan. 9, 2013

For Dr. Elaine Goodman, the strongest lessons in patient safety didn’t come from her training. They came from her mother’s death.

Goodman had just finished her first year of medical school when she found herself spending months at the bedside of her 63-year-old mom, who was battling breast cancer in the hospital.

Poll: 58% Of Americans Believe Abortion Is “Morally Wrong,” 83% Favor Laws

To Restrict Abortion…

Excellent.

(January 10, 2013) — A new Marist poll conducted for the Knights of Columbus reveals that 83% of Americans favor significant limitations on what is now essentially abortion on demand. That is up 4 points from last year.

A total of 56% of respondents believe either that abortion should never be permitted (10%), allowed only to save the life of the mother (12%), or only in cases of rape, incest, or to save the life of the mother (34%).

The telephone survey of 1,246 adults conducted in early December found that 27% would limit abortion to the first three months of pregnancy, at most. Another 6% would allow abortion during the first six months of pregnancy while only 11% would allow abortion at any time.

Nearly 6 in 10 Americans (58%) also believe abortion is “morally wrong.” And in many ways perhaps most important of all, a full 84% of Americans say laws can protect both mothers and unborn children.

The Left and Their Step-N-Fetch Media Mavens

Screen Shot 2013-01-06 at 4.38.17 PMCLASH DAILY-Don’t you love how the Left and their step-n-fetch media mavens are trying to make law-abiding gun owners the bad guys? You don’t? Yeah, me neither.

From Hollywood’s heavily armed guarded elite to the radical, anti-gun commie rag Journal News, peaceful and upright average Joes are being isolated and concentrated on as the bane of America’s existence just because we righteously and lawfully keep and bear arms.

Hollywood has even cobbled together a little tsk-tsk black and white video demanding our government do something about gun violence. That would be the very gun violence they have glamorized on the big screen for the last few decades. Hello.

I believe the total head count of the people slaughtered on film from all the participants from the “Demand a Plan” anti-gun clip comes out to a whopping 100,000 on screen murders.

If you have a photo you would like to see published in any of the albums listed on this site you can e-mail them to BillGCN@verizon.net. Or if you want call 456-1199 and someone will come out and pick the photo up. It will be returned.
