Under the guidance of Principal John Colman and Lead Teacher Mary Kelly, the first-year Junior High offers students a broad educational experience that includes a demanding curriculum complemented by a full offering of Activities and Athletics. 

Obituary: Charles F. Mills Jr., of Bellmawr, age 65

On February 7, 2012, following a courageous battle with breast cancer. Age 65. Of Bellmawr. Loving husband of 33 years to Diane J. (nee Evridge). Loving father of Charles J. Mills. Predeceased by his loving parents, Charles F. Mills, Sr. and Jennie Mills (nee Osinski) and his sisters, Pearl, Betty and Frances. Also survived by many loving nieces and nephews. 

 

Charles proudly served our Country in the U.S. Army. He worked over 20 years for C.L. Presser in Philadelphia. Charles was an avid Philadelphia sports fan. 

 

Relatives and friends are invited to his viewing on Friday morning from 10 AM to 12 Noon at the McCANN-HEALEY FUNERAL HOME: 851 Monmouth St., Gloucester City. Methodist funeral service will begin at 12 Noon in the funeral home. Interment with Military Honors in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Gloucester City.

It’s been a very mild winter and soon, it will be spring. Fido will be rarin’ to go outside to smell the flowers, roll in the grass, and generally enjoy life. 

It’s wise to remember that many female dogs go into heat in early spring and that male dogs show increased awareness of that fact. In addition, those fleas that were dormant in the winter will now come to life, again and drive animals and humans crazy! 

When warmer weather comes, your pets will have much more energy and be eager to walk, run, and play outdoors. By making sure that they are spayed, neutered, and well supervised you are guaranteeing them a joyous spring time!

Police Departments in Several Communities Seeking Armed Robber | cnbnews.net

Police in several jurisdictions are seeking information about a man who may be responsible for recent armed robberies of convenience stores and a bank in Gloucester, Washington and West Deptford townships and attempted robberies of a Glassboro pharmacy and a Washington Township donut shop this week.

 

The images shown of the suspect were obtained during the attempted hold-up at the Glassboro CVS store on Thursday night (2/16). The physical appearance and behavior of the individual, who brandished a knife and demanded cash in each incident, have led investigators to believe it is the same person.

 

The first robberies were of two 7-11 stores in Gloucester Township, Camden County NJ on Feb. 9 and 10 and a TD bank in Washington Township, Gloucester County on Feb. 10.  A One-Stop convenience store in West Deptford was robbed Monday night (2/13) and unsuccessful attempts to rob the Glassboro CVS and a Dunkin Donuts shop in Washington Township occurred Thursday night (2/16) with the suspect fleeing and not taking anything.

 

Anyone with information about the suspect is asked to contact the Glassboro Police Department at (856) 881-1500 and ask for Det. Michael Powell.

With the sparse media coverage of Whitney Houston’s death and funeral, it’s not surprising that her years of military service have gone largely unnoticed, as were her activities as an undercover cop in New Jersey (was she really killed after a sting went bad?).  After all, she must have done these dangerous things to warrant all Jersey state flags being flown at half-mast in her honor, as ordered by Governor Chris Christie. 

 

Because the opposite simply defies common sense. 

 

If Houston was not a police officer gunned down in the line of duty, nor a military hero killed in a war zone, that means that the hugely significant act of lowering the flags in deference to her was because she was…. a singer?

Allegheny County Man Arrested by Child Predator Unit

HARRISBURG - Agents from the Attorney General's Child Predator Unit have arrested an Allegheny County man accused of using the Internet to send sexually explicit and nude photos to what he believed was a young teenage girl, along with requesting nude photos of the "girl."

Attorney General Linda Kelly identified the defendant as Derek Lee Piovesan, 25, of 312 Western Way, Lower Burrell.

Kelly said that Piovesan is accused of using an Internet chat room to approach an undercover agent from the Child Predator Unit who had assumed the online identity of a 13-year old girl.  At the time, Piovesan allegedly identified himself as "Dan Snyder," a 25-year old from the Pittsburgh area.

On 02/10 at 2317 a bicycle stop on Broadway and Mercer led to the arrest of Nicholas Simon (29) of the 100 block of Mercer Street.  Simon swallowed an bag of crack cocaine in front of officers in order to avoid arrest.  He was charged with Obstruction of Justice.

 

On 02/16 at 1811 Nicholas Simon (29) of the 100 block of Mercer Street was again arrested after swallowing a bag of crack cocaine in front of officers.  Simon was charged with Failure to Surrender CDS and Obstruction of Justice.

The Obama administration recently unveiled a string of proposals to help struggling homeowners and get the housing market back on its feet — part of the administration’s “We Can’t Wait” election year to-do list. Of course, the White House has made big promises before about helping homeowners, only to see them disappoint time and again.

Here are the latest proposals, whether they are anything new and whether they stand a chance of going anywhere.

 

 

Rocky Terrain: Obama's Electoral College Map Grows Steeper

In the 2011 numbers, the situation looks much more difficult for Obama. From 2010 to 2011, Gallup found, his average approval ratings dropped in every state except Connecticut, Maine and (oddly enough) Wyoming. As a result, to reach 270 Electoral College votes based on the 2011 numbers, he would need to win 20 states plus the District of Columbia where his approval rating stands at 44.5 percent or more. Since one of the states above that line is Georgia, which is also a stretch for Obama in practice, to reach 270 he would more likely need to carry Oregon and North Carolina, where his approval ratings stood at 44.5 percent and 43.7 percent, respectively. (It's worth filing away that the scenario based on either year's numbers - Virginia and North Carolina  stand right at the tipping point between victory and defeat for Obama.)

Daily Presidential Tracking Poll - Rasmussen Reports™

The Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Tracking Poll for Thursday shows that 27% of the nation's voters Strongly Approve of the way that Barack Obama is performing his role as president. Thirty-nine percent (39%) Strongly Disapprove, giving Obama a Presidential Approval Index rating of -12 (see trends).

Thirty-four percent (34%) now believe the United States is generally heading in the right direction.  That’s up 10 points from a month ago and 15 points from two months ago.

In a potential Election 2012 matchup, the president posts a 47% to 43% lead over former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney.

Bankruptcy Filings Slide in Calendar Year 2011

Bankruptcy filings in the federal courts fell 11.5 percent in calendar year 2011, according to data released today by the Administrative Office of the U.S. Courts. The number of bankruptcies filed in the twelve-month period ending December 31, 2011, totaled 1,410,653, down from 1,593,081 bankruptcies filed in CY 2010.

An historic high in the number of bankruptcy filings was seen in CY 2005, when over 2 million bankruptcies were filed. Although filings dropped in CY2006, the first full 12-month period after the Bankruptcy Abuse Prevention and Consumer Protection Act of 2005 (BAPCPA) took effect, they have grown steadily every year since.  CY 2011 is the first calendar year to show a decrease in total filings since 2006.

Statistics released today include business and non-business filings for the 12-month period ending December 31, 2011 (Table F-2, 12-month); a comparison of December 2010 and 2011 filings (Table F); 4th quarter filings (Table F-2, 3-month); monthly filings for the 12-month period ending December 31, 2011 (Table F-2, Year-Month); and filings per capita.

 

Business and Non-Business Filings

The majority of bankruptcy filings involve non-business debts. In CY 2011, they totaled 1,362,847, down 11.3 percent from the 1,536,799 non-business bankruptcy filings in CY 2010.

Numerous Charges Filed Against District Judge from Lancaster

HARRISBURG - Attorney General Linda Kelly today announced that agents from the Attorney General's Bureau of Criminal Investigation have filed criminal charges against a Lancaster woman accused of using her position as a Magisterial District Judge to dismiss three traffic citations that had been issued to her personal vehicle by the police in Lancaster.

The defendant is identified as Kelly S. Ballentine, 43, of North St., Lancaster.

According to the criminal complaint, the Lancaster City Police Department issued three traffic citations to Ballentine in November 2010 - one for an expired registration on her BMW sedan and two for parking violations in front of her home.

Attorney General Kelly said the traffic violations occurred within Ballentine's magisterial district and were handled by personnel in her office.  When the appropriate fines were not paid within 30-days, summonses were mailed to Ballentine. 

Gloucester County Receives $166,100 Grant for Recycling Efforts

(Woodbury, NJ) – Gloucester County Freeholder Director Robert M. Damminger announced that the county will receive $166,100 this year in County Recycling Enhancement Act Grant funding.   This grant is used to fund events like the County’s Special Household Waste Collection Days.

Freeholder Director Damminger said, “This funding allows the county to promote recycling education programs in our schools and communities and to hold programs that increase the amount of recyclables collected.  When we keep recyclable waste out of the general waste stream we are making an investment our environment and we save tax dollars over the long term.”

MAYOR Nutter Presents Tickets to Mayor VIPs

Philadelphia, February 10, 2012 – Mayor Michael A. Nutter presented 170 Philadelphia sophomores with two tickets each as part of the Mayor’s VIP Program, which provides tickets to sporting events to students to inspire their success in school. For this quarter, the Mayor’s VIPs program is awarding tickets to sophomores for public, private, charter and parochial schools who were identified as most improved by their school.

Christie Orders Flags Lowered to Half-Staff in Recognition of NJ Native Whitney Houston

Trenton, NJ – Yesterday, Governor Chris Christie signed the Executive 
Order No. 87 − Ordering all State buildings to fly flags at half-staff on Friday, February 17, 2012 in recognition and mourning of the passing of Whitney Houston, who was born in Newark and grew up in East Orange. 
 
Houston, 48, was found dead in the bathtub of her suite at the Beverly Hilton on Saturday, hours before she was to attend a pre-Grammys bash at the Beverly Hills, California, hotel. Speculation has grown over the cause of her death, which has not been determined pending the outcome of toxicology tests that could take weeks.
 
Funeral services will be held on Saturday at New Hope Baptist Church in Newark, NJ. According to skynews (news.sky.com) Whitney Houston's fans will be able to watch her private funeral on the internet after her family agreed to allow a camera into the small church service in Newark, New Jersey. There were also no plans to hold a public memorial service, despite earlier suggestions that Newark's 18,000-seater Prudential Centre could be used for a ceremony.

On 2-15-2012, at approximately 2:06 P.M., a subject called the Pennco Technical School and spoke to the receptionist. He stated there was a bomb inside an office at the school. This threat prompted school officials to evacuate the school.

OUCH! THAT HAD TO HURT-An anonymous tip was received on Monday about a Gloucester City employee being bit by a dog that was owned by an office worker at the $20 million water treatment plant.

 

The tip reads, 

 

Dear CNBNews, I would like to keep my name out of this, but I have a huge story in regards to our water treatment plant.

 

On February 13, 2012 the water treatment office employee brought her dog to work and the dog bit an employee very badly.  The dog ripped through the employees skin and you could see the bone.  The assistant superintendent and safety coordinator for the City of Gloucester is allowing dogs to be brought to work into our new million dollar treatment plant.  He has also brought his dog there too.

The results are in!  Energy Secretary Steven Chu is the “winner” of CAGW’s online poll for 2011 Porker of the Year.  Drawing 43 percent of the vote, Sec. Chu finished first in a field of six nominees.  
 
The secretary earned this dubious award for his lax oversight of the Department of Energy's Loan Guarantee Program (LGP), which proved not-so-sunny when solar panel manufacturer Solyndra went belly-up, leaving the government on the line for a $535 million loan guarantee.  Unfortunately for taxpayers, the Solyndra debacle was but the dawn of a series of LGP-recipient bankruptcies, including: Beacon Power, Evergreen, Inc., and SpectraWatt.  

Washington Township House Fire Victim Identified

Dental records helped a forensic dentist identify the badly-burned body of a man found in a house fire at 133 Berlin-Cross Keys Road in Washington Township, Gloucester County NJ on Oct. 28, 2011.

 

Records obtained from a North Jersey dentist confirmed the body was that of Robert B. Cyr  (DOB 11/25/63), of 211 Nevada Ave., Williamstown NJ.

 

The dental records were located and submitted for comparison with teeth from the body.  DNA matching also was requested by the Gloucester County Prosecutor’s Office for purposes of identification, but laboratory results are still pending.

 

Cyr’s family was notified of the identification last week so funeral arrangements could be made with the Gloucester County Medical Examiner.

 

The fire occurred in a long-vacant house, known to be frequented by squatters.  The cause is still listed as undetermined, but it is suspected that unattended candles ignited the blaze.

FACEBOOK SCAM TARGETS YOUNG GIRLS; SUSPECT ARRESTED

HARRISBURG - Attorney General Linda Kelly today announced the filing of a series of felony charges against a Butler County man accused of using Facebook to operate an elaborate and disturbing false identity scheme that was used to solicit young girls for explicit photos or meetings for sex.

Kelly identified the defendant as William R. Ainsworth, 53, 110 Raupp Lane, Mars.

Kelly explained that the investigation by the Attorney General's Child Predator Unit began in September 2011, after agents received information that Ainsworth had traveled to the home of a 14-year old girl in Butler County in order to engage in various sex acts. Ainsworth was arrested at that time and held on numerous criminal charges related to that alleged meeting.
