US actor Larry Hagman (pictured in May), who became famous for his role of J.R. Ewing in the US television show "Dallas," has died at the age of 81 after losing a battle with cancer. According to the statement released by his family, Hagman died late Friday afternoon at Medical City Dallas Hospital from complications from throat cancer.

Bynum, a former All-Star with the Los Angeles Lakers who was traded to the 76ers last August in the four-team deal that sent Dwight Howard from Orlando to Los Angeles, has yet to take the court for his new team.

 

 Andrew Bynum's troublesome knees will keep the Philadelphia center out of NBA action indefinitely, the 76ers said in an update on his status.

PITTSBURGH (Nov. 24, 2012) – For just the second time in 2012, the Rutgers football team suffered a setback, falling at Pitt, 27-6, on Saturday at Heinz Field. It marked the first BIG EAST loss of the season for the Scarlet Knights (9-2, 5-1 BIG EAST). Rutgers is now 8-22 all-time against the Panthers, who improved to 5-6 (2-4 BIG EAST).

 

Sophomore RB Jawan Jamison (Starke, Fla.) surpassed the 1,000-yard plateau in rushing for the season late in the second quarter, becoming the seventh player in Rutgers history to go over the century mark. He now has 1,004 yards in 2012.

Camden And Hunterdon Disaster Recovery Centers To Close | cnbnews.net

 

TRENTON, N.J. — The Disaster Recovery Centers (DRCs) in Camden and Hunterdon counties will close at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 28. Survivors of Hurricane Sandy can continue to visit the other 33 DRCs serving individuals in New Jersey. Anyone can visit any DRC in any county or even another state.

 

Those affected by Sandy are encouraged to register with FEMA before visiting a DRC.

Nine Western New Jersey Disaster Recovery Centers to Go to Rotating Schedule

 

Trenton, NJ – To continue serving Hurricane Sandy disaster survivors in the Garden State, the New Jersey Office of Emergency Management and FEMA will change the hours of nine western Disaster Recovery Centers (DRCs). Beginning Monday, Nov. 26, all DRC services will be available on a rotating basis for a period of three days at a time in each of the fixed DRC locations already identified by the state. Anyone can visit any DRC in any county or even another state.

 

DRCs will be in the following locations on the following dates from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.:

Eagles hold off late surge by Lions

Bridgewater, Va … The College of New Jersey men’s basketball team staged a late-game rally, but fell short in a 78-68 defeat to Bridgewater College on Saturday afternoon in Bridgewater, Va.

The Lions (0-2) trailed by as many as 24 points in the second half, but battled to cut the lead to seven points with three minutes remaining. The Eagles (3-1) were able to withstand the pressure in the final minutes to secure their third consecutive victory.

The dates and sites for the nine Little League World Series tournaments in 2013, have been approved by the Little League International Board of Directors, it was announced by Stephen D. Keener, President and Chief Executive Officer of Little League Baseball and Softball.

The newly-created Little League Intermediate 50/70 Baseball Division World Series will play its inaugural tournament in Livermore, Calif., July 30-to-Aug. 5, at Max Baer Park, home of Granada Little League.

Always a fun time at the 2012 6ABC Dunnkin' Donuts Philadelphia Thanksgiving Day Parade.

The biggest highlight of the day was when Cara got to take a picture with Disney Star, Coco Jones. Coco was so pretty and sweet and was very kind to Cara.  As soon as the parade was over, she was heading back to Tennessee.

We saw lots of celebrities. We got close enough to take a picture of Good Morning America's Sam Champion, who was doing live feed.

We had a small media team with my camera, an  Ipod and an Ipad. The buildings are very tall where we stand, which accounts for some dark shots.

NJ Damages from Hurricane Sandy Estimated at $29.4 Billion |cnbnews.net

 

Trenton, NJ – In response to the unprecedented and widespread damage caused by Hurricane Sandy to personal property, businesses, transportation and utilities infrastructure, as well as New Jersey’s $38 billion tourism industry, the Christie Administration has completed a preliminary cost analysis of those damages, which puts the total cost at approximately $29.4 billion.  The estimate will be further refined in the days and weeks ahead.

   A “pocket pet” is a type of animal usually small enough to fit into your pocket. Falling within this category are hamsters, guinea pigs, mice, rats, sugar gliders, gerbils, prairie dogs, squirrels, hedgehogs and ferrets.

   Not all of the above-named animals are suited for captivity. Some will die within weeks if kept isolated or caged, some can transmit diseases to humans or other animals, and few can be trained to respond positively to humans.

   Some folks buy these little mammals as a form of amusement and, when they tire of them, neglect them or simply release them where they will be eaten by larger animals or suffer weather-related deaths. Please remember that these creatures feel hunger, thirst, heat, and cold. They are captive and thus, at the mercy of the humans that purchased them.

   If you own a pet, no matter how large or how small, take care of him as though his life depends on it—because it does!

Two people shot amid Black Friday shopping violence

 Police in Florida are still looking for the person who allegedly shot two people at a Walmart in Tallahassee, the most serious reported instance of violence in the midst of the “Black Friday” holiday shopping maelstrom.

The Tallahassee Democrat reported that police were interviewing witnesses in order to get a description of the shooter.

The two victims were taken to a nearby hospital and treated for non life-threatening wounds. The store was briefly shut down after authorities responded to reports of gunshots being fired in front of the store.

As much as we love celebrating Thanksgiving in our house, Leftovers Day is just as delicious and, comes with a lot less work. Yey!! This Thanksgiving in the wake of Sandy we combined two families, two turkeys and two traditions into one and it was probably our best Thanksgiving ever. As you can see in the pictures, the second turkey didn’t get cooked. We’ll be cooking that bird today and trying something a little different with this Southwestern Turkey with Garlic-Ancho Chili Paste and Gravy. The 3 heads of garlic are roasting in the oven as we speak and smell heavenly.

Walmart, which denies there are any widespread complaints, last week filed a complaint with the National Labor Relations Board to try to block the Black Friday protests.

 Protesters targeted Walmart stores across the United States on Friday, the busiest shopping day of the year, accusing the bargain superstore of ripping off its own employees.

The protests were designed to disrupt the Black Friday shopping frenzy after Thursday's Thanksgiving holiday, when deep discounts pull in waves of customers.

Pennsylvania Firefighter Dies After Call - Firehouse

Firefighters in Chester County, Pa. are facing Thanksgiving with heavy hearts as they mourn the loss of a brother.

Good Will Fire Company Capt. Chris Good, 36, was found in cardiac arrest at his home on Wednesday, according to the Daily Local.com.

Good had helped at a working fire on Tuesday. On Wednesday, he went to his job as a firefighter Arcelor Mittal Steel Fire Company.

After attending a pre-plan exercise, he returned home. His wife later found him unresponsive.

He is surivived by his wife and three children.

HUNTING LICENSES NO LONGER NEED TO BE DISPLAYED

Hunters and trappers are reminded they no longer are required to display their licenses on an outer garment, said Pennsylvania Game Commission Executive Director Carl G. Roe.

“The Game Commission supported legislation that was enacted last year and took effect earlier this year to remove the statutory requirement that licenses be displayed,” Roe said. “Hunters now may place their hunting license in their wallet with other ID, as they are required to have a second form of identification with them while hunting.”

 

 

HUNTERS CAN CHECK ON TRAFFIC AND ROAD CONDITIONS IN ADVANCE

As road conditions are sometimes “iffy” for deer seasons, hunters can check traffic and road conditions on more than 2,900 miles of roadways by simply calling “511” or logging onto the state Department of Transportation’s website (www.511pa.com) before heading out to camp this year.

Bolstered by the presence of healthy running back John DeLaurentis and solid overall games from quarterback Micahel Davis and teammates Matt  Davis and James Higginbotham, Gloucester Catholic upset city rival Gloucester High 22-15 in a West Jersey League Thanksgiving Day football classic.

"The seniors all said to a man that this was the one they wanted to win," head coach Tony Garczynski said following the huge triumph. "I told them before the game -- you've talked about this as a goal, now go out there and walk the talk. And to their credit, everyone was brought their "A" game today."

As regular readers know, I sue public bodies for violating the Open Public Meetings Act (OPMA) and sometimes obtain a court order, either by settlement or the judge's adjudication, requiring the public body, going forward, to take better minutes, produce its meeting minutes more promptly or otherwise improve its OPMA compliance.  But, what can a citizen-plaintiff do when a public body subject to such an order elects to disobey it?

Local Red Cross volunteer Marv Goodman is working on something new here in New Jersey in response to Superstorm Sandy. Marv is reaching out to faith-based organizations and places of worship across the state to work together with Red Cross to serve populations that might otherwise not receive available Red Cross assistance. New Jersey has traditionally been spared from major disasters, but that also means that local underserved populations haven’t previously been identified and reached by Red Cross disaster services. These residents are sometimes immigrants or populations separated by linguistic and cultural barriers.
