Members of Organized Retail Theft Ring that Targeted 70 Home Depot Stores in New Jersey and Five Other States Arrested | cnbnews.net

TRENTON – Attorney General Jeffrey S. Chiesa today announced arrests of the alleged leader and two other members of an organized retail theft ring that targeted approximately 70 Home Depot stores, primarily in New Jersey, but also in New York, Pennsylvania, Delaware, Maryland and Virginia. Arrest warrants have been issued for two additional individuals.

It is alleged that the ring members committed thefts at multiple stores per day, stealing hundreds of dollars in merchandise by “under-ringing” it through self checkout areas. They allegedly engaged in over 500 illegal transactions resulting in estimated losses that exceeded $100,000.

The following five men have been arrested or are being sought on warrants:

On 03/30 at 0146 officers responded to the WaWa for a shoplifting.  The actor fled in a Ford Explorer after stealing 3 ice cream bars.  Officers located the suspect vehicle and conducted a stop in the parking lot of King of Pizza.  As a result Kelly Abrams (24) of Blackwood was arrested and charged with Shoplifting.

 

On 03/30 at 0119 a resident of the 300 block of Mercer Street reported their 2002 Toyota truck was stolen.

A 56-year-old woman was pronounced dead at a hospital after a firefighter carried her from a bedroom of her burning Washington Township, Gloucester County NJ home shortly after 12 a.m. this morning  (4/7).

Barry Comment Critical of Asian Business Owners | NBC4 Washington

Barry spoke of changes in the ward, saying he’s worked hard for economic development in the city’s poorest ward and will continue to do so and saying something needs to be done about Good Hope Road and Martin Luther King Avenue.

He also seemed to criticize Asian shop owners who operate many small stores in the District.

“We got to do something about these Asians coming in and opening up businesses and dirty shops,” Barry said. “They ought to go. I’m going to say that right now. But we need African-American businesspeople to be able to take their places, too.”

Neither News4 nor Barry’s staff could reach the four-time former mayor Wednesday to get clarification about the remark.

Mayor Vincent Gray said he hadn't heard about Barry's comment.

Most of us have been faced with a pet’s illness. Dogs and cats get sick; it’s a part of life, just as it is for human beings. However, Fido and Tabby aren’t able to verbalize how they are feeling and so it’s up to us to pinpoint when to head to the veterinarian. 

Take note of how much (or how little) a pet is eating. If he has eaten little in a 24 hour period it’s time to question his health. If he is exhibiting excessive drooling, panting, or has diarrhea, get him to the doctor quickly—he may have ingested poison or be suffering from a contagious disease. Alert your veterinarian to the symptoms; it’s possible that the pet will have to be isolated upon arrival at the office. 

Keeping Fido and Tabby up to date on shots and heartworm medication will generally keep them in good health. But, when you suspect a health problem be sure to seek treatment.

U.S. Taxes Set to Go Up by $494 billion in 2013 | blog.heritage.org

The Washington Post aptly called the unprecedented $494 billion tax hike “Taxmageddon,” and Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke described it as a “massive fiscal cliff.” Whatever your preferred imagery, it’s a really big deal.

Despite all the warnings, President Barack Obama has kept his silence while Congress has made no apparent effort to prevent this impending calamity to families and the economy. The prevailing wisdom is that “something will get done” in a lame duck session of Congress after the election. But why wait? And why after the election?

Here’s why you should be worried. For starters, remember that this is the same President who in 2009 promised, “if your family earns less than $250,000 a year, you will not see your taxes increased a single dime.” That’s a vow he’s broken, and in 2013, things are going to get even worse if this year Obama doesn’t lead and Congress doesn’t act. Katy, bar the door, there’s big trouble in store.

The tax man won’t draw his billions from the American taxpayer with just one big needle — the massive tax increase will be the product of tax policies expiring in seven different categories, on top of five new Obamacare tax hikes taking effect. 1. 11:03 PM – Burglary – Resident from the 500 block of Devon Rd. reported a burglary to their residence sometime between 7:30 PM and 10:00 PM on 4/4/2012. Entry was gained through an unlocked rear door. Jewelry was taken from the master bedroom.

of jewelry from the bedroom sometime in past three weeks.

2. 3:46 PM – Burglary – Complainant reported a burglary to a residence on the 200 block of Pembrook Ave. Entry was gained by breaking a basement door window. Nothing appeared to be missing.

FBI — Fort Dix Inmate Pleads Guilty in Death of Another Inmate

CAMDEN, NJ—A Connecticut man serving a prison sentence at the Fort Dix Federal Correctional Institution today admitted pushing a fellow inmate to his death during an argument, U.S. Attorney Paul J. Fishman announced.

Joseph Rafferty (photo) has been appointed Gloucester City School Superintendent by the City Board of Education this week.  He will replace Paul Spaventa, whose contract was not renewed by the Board.  

 

Presently Rafferty, a long-time resident of Gloucester City,  is the Superintendent of the Mount Ephraim School District, a position he has held since 2006. 

 

Rafferty’s work experience includes principal of the Rohrer Middle School in Haddon Township, grant writer and assistant principal of the Mary Ethel Costello School. He was a teacher at Gloucester Catholic High School and also at Gloucester City High School.

 

He graduated from Gloucester Catholic High School Class of '79 and is a parishioner at Saint Mary Church.

 

His salary and the term of his contract is not known at this time.

Bozell Rejects NBC's False Apology | Media Research Center

April 4, 2012 - Last week, NBC’s “Today Show” doctored George Zimmerman’s 9-1-1 call so that his motive for shooting Trayvon Martin appeared racial.  Over the weekend, NBC reported to The Washington Post that an investigation would be forthcoming after the Media Research Center exposed their fraud.  It appears NBC’s investigation has been completed.  Last night, NBC issued a two sentence explanation on it.  Media Research President Brent Bozell says that this is as dishonest as the original piece.

"We reject this fraudulent apology,” said Bozell.  “We're not surprised. After all, NBC 'investigated' itself. We again call on Comcast, not NBC, to investigate this matter -- thoroughly, honestly, and professionally.”

In NBC’s apology, they stated that an “error” was made and that they “deeply regret” it.  "There was no 'error,' as if a 'mistake' was made. This was a willful distortion, deliberately taking the quotes out of context in order to twist their meaning and feed the narrative of a racist assault.

Our Lord took John Bicking to his bosom on April 3, 2012 after a long illness following a stroke in August of 2008. John was born to Thelma and Joseph Bicking on June 4, 1934 in Gloucester City, New Jersey. He went to Gloucester Catholic High where he met his loving wife of 54 years, Marilyn Alkis.

Legacy

A few years after graduation from Fordham University, John and two partners, Jack Warner and Bill Fenwick, started a successful advertising agency in Manhattan. John and Marylyn retired in Moab, Utah where they rehabilitated birds of prey for eleven years before moving to Tucson, Arizona. John excelled in photography, liked to travel (last 2 trips were to eat and drink in Paris) was an avid New York Yankees fan, watching every game on DirecTV.

Family

Parents and grandparents preceded him in death and he leaves his beloved wife, Marilyn, brother Donald, Sr. (Maria), niece, Deborah Byers and her children, Stephen and Abigail, nephews, Donald, Jr. (Karen) and their children, Hannah and Tabitha and Frank (Lisa) and their daughter Samantha; also sister-in-law, Marie and her children and grandchildren

Robert Andrews, D-N.J., today presented Gloucester Marine Terminal officials with an award letter announcing an $11 million federal tax credit rebate for the recently-completed groundbreaking new rooftop solar power plant project, the largest of its kind in North America.

 

Known as Riverside Renewable Energy, LLC, the $42 million project consists of 27,526 photovoltaic rooftop solar panels covering 1.1 million square foot of rooftop at the Gloucester Marine Terminal, which is owned by the Holt family. It has the capacity to produce 9.0 MW of electricity – enough to power more than 1,500 homes.

Marion was the former Mayor and Councilwoman of Brooklawn in the 1970’s and 1980’s. She was actively involved in the Republican Party and served as committee woman for many years. Marion was extremely proud and devoted to the Borough of Brooklawn and had fond memories of serving as the Mayor and committee woman. She was the first female president of the Camden County Mayor’s Assoc. 

 

Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend her visitation on Tuesday morning from 9:30 to 11 AM at the Brooklawn United Methodist Church (photo): 213 Maude Ave (at Hannevig), Brooklawn, NJ 08030. Methodist Service will begin at 11 AM in the church. Interment Eglington Cemetery, Clarksboro.

5 yrs NJSP for Deptford woman in vehicular homicide

 

Mary J. Dalton (DOB 12/13/69), of 101 Redstone Ridge Drive, Deptford NJ was sentenced today to five years in New Jersey state prison after pleading guilty to vehicular homicide in the hit-and-run death of 43-year-old bicycle rider Thomas C. McCoy on Delsea Drive  (NJ Rt. 47) in Deptford on Sept. 14, 2010.

 

Both Dalton and her father offered sympathy to the family of Woodbury resident McCoy before her sentencing. “This is a pain I have to live with every day, but it doesn’t compare to the pain I caused them,” she said.

A close friend and fellow distance runner, Tom Osler, lionized him as “The father of distance running in the United States.” He is mentioned in the autobiography of Roger Bannister, the world’s first sub-4 minute miler. When he died of a heart attack, April 27, 1998, after his daily three-mile run near his Woodbury home, the New York Times devoted 20 inches to his obituary.

Yet I too am a survivor.True, My challenges list looks like this:

Struggling doggedly with another language and culture,not just for a few weeks, but for every single day of every single year, year-in and year-out...Raising three kids between two lands and a pair of families parted by a wide world of differences and understanding...Sweating through a boiling cost of living that over baked even the smallest of expenditures...Thus perhaps the hardest task of  all this is watching other folks in similar situations not being able to survive, but rather pack up everything and head back home.

I am reminded of these old friends every day, for like a true survivor I have their cast-off belongings. I sip coffee from the mug an ex-colleague who is now living on the west coast.

Two members of the Bellmawr Police Department were promoted to Corporal during ceremonies at last week’s Borough Council meeting.

Following weeks of studying and testing, Joseph Falcone and John Marrone received their stripes.

Corporal Falcone was sworn in by Public Safety Director John Bollinger, and Corporal Marrone was sworn in by Councilman Jim D’Angelo, at the Councilman’s request.
