On January 2, 2012, at 7:15pm, three unknown males wearing Philadelphia Flyers Jerseys assaulted two males while at Geno’s Steaks located at 1200 South 9th Street.

The assault began after the Winter Classic hockey event and the male victims were wearing New York Rangers jerseys. During the altercation one of the victims were seriously injured.

Camden County to Replace Baird Blvd. Bridge

Reconstruction of the Baird Boulevard Bridge is slated to begin sometime in March or April. Structural engineers determined in October that the Baird Boulevard Bridge over the Cooper River in Camden is in need of replacement due to damage caused by flooding in the aftermath of Hurricane Irene.

Nearly One-Third of Pennsylvania Fire Department Retires - Firehouse

Fire Chief Robert Scheirer predicted months ago that some 50 firefighters would retire before the union's contract that contained a generous pension clause was set to expire Dec. 31, echoing a similar mass exodus six years ago in the police department. Now that the paperwork has settled, city officials say 42 firefighters left in 2011 -- nearly one-third of the department usually staffed with about 140 firefighters. That's by far the most firefighter retirees in one year, second only to the departure of 80 police officers six years ago. Because the city predicted dozens of firefighters would step down to take advantage of higher pensions, officials say they were prepared and public safety won't be compromised. Union President John Stribula, who represents the local chapter of International Association of Firefighters, said with the retirements, the department won't be up to full strength for six months. Even then, new and inexperienced firefighters won't have the institutional knowledge of the veteran firefighters to fall back on, said Stribula, who was one of the 42 retirees.

Authorities Charge Unregistered Home Improvement Contractors

NEWARK – The staging place for the undercover operation was a four bedroom, three bathroom Cape Cod-style dwelling that, like many homes in its Lyndhurst neighborhood, suffered extensive structural and mold damage as a result of floodwaters caused by Tropical Storm Irene. The home served as the base for a multi-agency, four-day undercover operation to expose allegedly unregistered home improvement contractors seeking to capitalize on the August 2011 natural disaster that left many homeowners in desperate need of home repair help.

As part of the operation, Division of Consumer Affairs investigators, posing as homeowners, responded to home repair advertisements shortlyafter the floodwaters receded. The investigators invited a total of 16 contractors to visit the undercover house, examine the damage, and provide repair estimates.

After reports of his shady financial dealings first surfaced in theWashington Post, we asked the Federal Election Commission (FEC) to investigate whether or not Mr. Gingrich illegally funneled $42,000 dollars from his campaign to his own pocket.

Mr. Gingrich joins a growing list of candidates, like Rep. Rob Andrews (D-NJ) and Christine O’Donnell (R-DE),who have been caught using their campaign funds for personal gain. At some point, even the generally indifferent FEC -- which is at least supposed to enforce campaign finance laws -- should find this trend troubling.

OGDEN -- One of six police officers shot while serving a search warrant at an Ogden home Wednesday night has died of his injuries.

Ogden police identify him as Agent Jared Francom. In a news release police say he has "served the citizens of Ogden City with honor for seven years." He is survived by his wife and two young children.

Five other police officers from multiple agencies remain hospitalized with serious to critical injuries.

The suspect remains at a local hospital under guard, in stable condition with non-life threatening injuries. The suspect's name has not been released.

The shooting took place at 3268 Jackson Ave. at 8:40 p.m.

John P. Schmidt, 23, of Gloucester City, said he found widespread violations of the state’s Local Government Ethics Law when he canvassed a six-county area for compliance. The area included Atlantic, Cape May, Cumberland, Salem, Camden, and Gloucester counties. Schmidt said Atlantic County was the leader with 210 violations. Brigantine had the most of any town with 54. Atlantic City had 20 alleged violations. Schmidt said about 15 percent of officials are not filing the forms the state requires by April 30 of each year. The forms show sources of income, gifts, real estate holdings and other financial details of those holding public office. Schmidt said the goal is to make sure public officials are not taking action on issues where they have a financial or personal interest.

If the forms are not turned in, fines of $100 to $500 can be levied by the state.
