County to become first in state of accept text to 911
The County’s next generation 911 system will allow residents to contact 911 by text message. Residents who may have difficulty making a phone call in an emergency situation will be able to send and receive follow up texts from the County Communications Center. It is also a useful tool for the hearing impaired. The new system is anticipated to go online in July and will eventually accept photos by text of emergency situations or crimes in progress that will be useful to first responders and law enforcement officers.
Green Buildings
Camden County is a leader in smart growth projects that use green systems. The County has long supported environmentally friendly initiatives and sustainability. Green Buildings & Design Magazine, a business-to-business national trade magazine based in Chicago, is featuring two such projects in their January/February 2013 issue. Conifer Village at Ferry Station in Camden, opened in February, 2012 and Gateway Village at Cooper Towne Center in Somerdale in 2011 were praised for their use of energy-efficient green systems. Conifer Village is a senior housing project and Gateway Village is affordable housing. In both the housing projects, efficiency was key in choosing heating and cooling systems as well as appliances.
