CAMDEN — Law enforcement authorities are investigating a shooting on Hull Road Saturday night, killing
two people who were sitting in a parked car. Three others in the car were wounded.
Camden County Prosecutor Warren Faulk said the shooting occurred around 11:40 p.m. as the five victims sat inside a burgundy Chevrolet Lumina on Hull Road.
The gunman, wearing yellow latex gloves and covering the bottom of his face with a black mask, walked up to the Lumina and fired his gun repeatedly into the driver’s side.
Jewel Manire, 18, whose address was not immediately known, and Khalil Gibson, 20, of Camden, were killed in the attack. A 16-year-old girl, address unknown, and a 20-year-old Camden woman were also shot in the head, according to the prosecutor's office.
The fifth victim, a 16-year-old Camden girl who was shot in the arm and shoulder, managed to escape the vehicle and called authorities, Faulk said in the news release. Rather than chase her, the shooter pushed Manire out of the driver's seat and drove the Lumina to a dirt road near 2500 Morgan Boulevard, Laughlin said.
The 20-year-old woman then jumped out of the car and ran off, spurring a brief chase by the gunman. Unable to catch her, the shooter fled toward basketball courts near Morgan Boulevard, authorities said.
The surviving victims today remained at Cooper Hospital in Camden, where the two victims with head wounds were listed in critical condition, said Jason Laughlin, spokesman for Faulk.
Authorities said the shooter stood about six feet tall and also carried a machete.
