A 56-year-old woman was pronounced dead at a hospital after a firefighter carried her from a bedroom of her burning Washington Township, Gloucester County NJ home shortly after 12 a.m. this morning (4/7).
The woman was identified as Darlene J. Starett, a widow who lived with her son in the bi-level home at 77 Golfview Drive in the Turnersville section of the township. Her son was at work in King of Prussia PA at the time of the fire. There were no other occupants of the home. Mrs. Starett was pronounced dead at Washington Memorial Hospital, Washington Township. An autopsy by the Gloucester County Medical Examiner is scheduled for this evening.
There no other injuries resulting from the fire.
The fire, which heavily damaged the first floor of the home, was reported by a neighbor at 12:01 a.m.
The cause of the fire is undetermined pending an inspection by an electrical engineer. The Gloucester County Fire Marshal and the Gloucester County Prosecutor's Office are investigating.
