The Haddon Twp. and Voorhees branches of the Camden County Library System are running a book drive for the benefit of the James Stoy School library in Haddon Twp. to the end of April.
VOORHEES, NJ – April 5, 2012 – The Camden County Library is helping collect books to benefit the James Stoy School library in Haddon Township. Volunteers and teachers at Stoy elementary are working together to reorganize the school’s library and are replacing old, worn out books.
Gently used school-age books in better condition are being collected in specially marked donation boxes inside two Camden County Library System branches: the William G. Rohrer Memorial Library Branch in Haddon Township and the M. Allan Vogelson Regional Branch in Voorhees.
“We love working with schools and getting used books to locations where they can benefit our customers,” said William Brahms who coordinates year-round book donations at the Voorhees branch. The library gets requests from time to time to assist schools and organizations in local communities, according to Brahms.
Earlier this year Brahms was approached by Dr. Charles Warfield, the principal at Stoy Elementary, which has a library staffed and supported primarily through the local PTA. Brahms noted the targeted book drive will allow people outside the immediate school area to put their books to good use and supplement the work of the PTA.
As branch manager of the M. Allan Vogelson Regional library in Voorhees Brahms added, “We collect all types of books, year round, for reuse including the library’s on-going and large book sales, but this is an extra initiative to target school-age books and unused books that will aid the school and the library’s book sale.”
Books for this collection drive should be in excellent condition, newer (printed 1990s or later) and targeted for Pre-K thru middle-school reading levels, stressed Brahms. The specially marked boxes will be placed inside the library branches at Haddon and Voorhees during the week of April 8, 2012 to correspond with National Library Week, and the collection drive for the special initiative until continue to the end of April. Questions can be directed to Vogelson Branch Manager William Brahms at 856-772-1636 ext. 7308.
