On 3/17/2012 at 10:28 AM, Gloucester Township Police responded to the Wells Fargo Bank parking lot for a report of a male subject, later identified as Michael Celia, chasing a second male with a knife. As the officers were arriving, it was reported that Mr. Celia fled the area in a Gray Pontiac on Blackwood-Clementon Road. Patrolman Eric Marconi arrived on location and found the victim suffering from a stab wound to the hand.
The victim advised officers that he had a dispute with his friend who then stabbed him inside of the vehicle. The victim was transported to a local hospital for treatment of his injuries which were not life threatening and he was expected to be released later this afternoon.
Patrolman Nick Katz, who was checking the area for the fleeing vehicle, located it on College Drive and attempted to stop the vehicle. The suspect failed to stop for Patrolman Katz and fled from the officer at a high rate of speed on College Drive. The suspect then entered Route 42 where officers lost sight of the fleeing suspect vehicle.
Patrolman Lisa Hatcher and Patrolman Tim Kohlymer then located the suspect vehicle moments later in the parking lot of a business where the suspect was taken into custody without incident.
The suspect Michael Celia was charged with Aggravated Assault, Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose, Unlawful Possession of a Weapon, Eluding, Possession of a Hypodermic Needle, Driving Under the Influence, and various motor vehicle offenses. He was remanded to Camden County Jail in default of $125,000 cash bail.
