CANDIDATE FOR COUNCIL
Residents of Bellmawr, I plan on running for Borough Council next year as an Independent.
I had wanted to be placed on the ballot this year. However, the Camden County Democratic Party challenged my petition, and was thus successful.
I needed to obtain 61 signatures. I received notice from the Camden County Clerk’s office in June stating my petition was invalid for not obtaining 61. Some signatures had been deemed invalid for various reasons.
Therefore, I will try again and ensure I get more than enough signatures from Bellmawr residents to head off a certain petition challenge.
In my opinion, the current occupants in elected office in Bellmawr do not want competition, and therefore want to run unopposed. I would like to provide a choice in doing something to reduce our property taxes, providing monthly updates on EGOV website to residents on what’s being done to reduce municipal expenses, and providing enhanced accessibility of residents to speak with members of Borough Council.
I know it will be a difficult task winning election against long-term incumbent Council members. But, the only way for me to win a Council seat is for the residents of Bellmawr wanting a new message and direction in leadership; and Bellmawr residents are the only one who can send that clear, and convincing independent message.
Mark T. Sharp, Bellmawr
