Today’s column will be devoted to a unique organization called Dogs on Deployment (www.dogsondeployment.com). Founded in June, 2011, by Alisa Johnson and her husband, this non-profit searches for boarding homes for dogs whose owners have been deployed in the military.
Alisa and her husband, (photo, left) both in the military, recently reached out to CNB News
because of a need for volunteers in New Jersey. Alisa states, “I am writing to you in the hopes that you’d be interested in doing a story on us. I saw your collection of articles, “Men and Women in the Military” and believe our story would fit in there. We currently have a dual-military family from Chesilhurst that is looking for a boarder for their two dogs (pictured above). I hope that by doing a story on us, not only can you help Dogs on Deployment get its name out there, but you can help find a boarder for the family in need.”
The group targets military bases so members of the military can interview the prospective boarder and decide if it’s a match. If everyone is in agreement the dog will stay with the boarding family until the military member returns from deployment.
Dogs on Deployment is working toward its goal of becoming a tax-exempt entity. “When that goal is reached”, Alisa continued, “We plan to petition pet supply companies to supply the boarding family with essentials for the duration of the deployment.
If you would like more information on this patriotic organization, please go to their website. There are many ways to show support for our men and women in the military. This is one of them.
