(cnbnews.net)The Camden County Republican Party at a noon press conference today called for the resignation of Democrat Freeholder Director Lou Cappelli Jr. The Director, who is running for re-election, has been charged with assaulting his wife. The Republicans said Cappelli has also been accused of forgery, fraud and embezzlement of money from his wife.
Their statement reads as follows,
According to several different public records, current Camden County Freeholder Director – Democrat Lou Cappelli – who has been endorsed for re- election by the Camden County Democrat machine - was charged on July 28, 2008 for assault upon a victim – which has since been confirmed to be his wife – causing her visible signs of injury. A document obtained through an Open Public Records Request indicates Mr. Cappelli was charged in Sea Isle City with assault for slamming a door on his wife’s arm causing “visible signs of injury.” Because Sea Isle City has failed to turn over all records relating to this incident, an OPRA lawsuit was filed today seeking all police investigation and arrest reports for Cappelli for the July 28, 2008 incident as well as all other incidents up to the present.
In yet another public filing, Democrat Cappelli, over the course of several years from 2007 to 2009, is accused of a series of acts – including forgery, fraud and embezzlement of money from his wife – whereupon he forged his wife’s name on checks and documents without her knowledge or permission and in furtherance of his scheme to drain over $200,000 of money belonging to her. This conduct is disgraceful. A copy of the lawsuit is attached.
Earlier this year, it was discovered that Mr. Cappelli owed over $20,000 in delinquent property taxes – the same taxes which he sets as a Freeholder. Given the amount owed, Mr. Cappelli has apparently been ignoring his obligation for quite some time. Sadly, Mr. Cappelli blames his wife – claiming he paid her so she was supposed to pay the taxes.
Last week it was revealed that a Republican candidate had made offensive and inappropriate remarks regarding women. Once this was learned, the Camden County GOP quickly gathered the facts and Chairman Tom Booth immediately and appropriately withdrew this organization’s support of that candidate, stating that the Camden County Republican Party would never sacrifice values and integrity for the sake of winning a political race. Chairman Tom Booth stated on October 21:
“Anyone who shows such bias or who engages in conduct harmful to women – with their actions or their words –... is unfit for public office. Political parties and their leaders must stand up against such conduct even when the individual involved is a member of their own party and that is why I have taken this strong action today because winning a political race is never as important as protecting the values and integrity of our Party.”
Based upon Democrat Cappelli’s anti-women conduct the Camden County Republican Party hereby calls upon the entire Demcratic ticket to condemn these actions and withdraw their support for Mr. Capelli’s continued pursuit of re- election as a Freeholder. Moreover, the Camden County Republican party calls for the immediate resignation of Democrat Louis Cappelli from the Camden County Board of Chosen Freeholders.
