Register for the Women’s Health Conference

Camden County Website Named Among Top in State
The New Jersey Foundation for Open Government (NJFOG), in conjunction with the Rutgers University School of Public Affairs, recently ranked the websites of New Jersey’s 21 counties. The researchers evaluated them for overall content and usability, ease of navigation, and accessibility to information. “We are pleased to be recognized among the top websites in the state,” said Freeholder Director Louis Cappelli, Jr. “It is important to note that this survey was completed before the launch of our new website, which provides even greater access to county information.” Camden County’s website was recognized for openness in e-governance, and was ranked second, just after top placed Hunterdon County.
Prominent Hispanic Award Nominations Being Accepted
In commemoration of National Hispanic Heritage Month, the Camden County Board of Freeholders will hold its 15th Annual Prominent Hispanic Award Presentations on Thursday, October 7, 2010. “It is with pride that we celebrate the rich and diverse Hispanic heritage while recognizing the tremendous contribution, dedication, and hard work of the many unsung Hispanic individuals,” said Freeholder Director Louis Cappelli, Jr. If you know someone deserving this recognition, please complete the nomination by Friday, September 3, 2010.
Students Offered Free Meningitis Shots
The Camden County Department of Health and Human Services is offering free meningococcal vaccine to college bound students from Camden County. “The Camden County Health Department has received doses of meningococcal vaccine from the Federal Reinvestment & Recovery Act,” said Freeholder Carmen Rodriguez, liaison to the Department of Health and Human Services. College-bound students may make an appointment to receive the meningococcal vaccine on Monday, August 23 or 30 from noon to 4:00 pm at the Bellmawr Regional Health Center, 35 Browning Road, Bellmawr NJ, by calling (856) 931-2700.
Camden County College Ranks Among Nation’s Top Community Colleges
Camden County College graduates more associate’s degree recipients than all but 83 of the nation’s approximately 5,000 of institutions of higher education. According to Community College Week newspaper, the college ranked 84th nationwide in terms of overall associate’s degree completion. The study also reviewed data regarding associate’s degree completion for individual subject areas and compiled lists of the top 50 institutions by discipline. Camden County College ranked eighth in education and also placed 39th in communication technologies/technicians and support services. Registration for Camden County College’s Fall 2010 classes in all academic disciplines is on now, and the first courses of the semester begin the week of Sept. 1. Textbook Rentals Offered at Camden County College
“Starting this fall, students enrolled at Camden County College will be able to rent some of the textbooks required for their classes,” said Freeholder Riletta Cream, liaison to Education. Rentals may be made in the bookstore or their website at camdencc.bncollege.com for Blackwood and Cherry Hill or www.bkstr.com/Home/10001-10454-1 for Camden. Returns will include drop-off and mail-in options and be facilitated with e-mail reminders. For additional information regarding textbook rentals at Camden County College, students should visit one of the campus bookstores or one of the Web sites listed above.
Children’s Safety Seat Inspection Day
The Camden County Freeholder Board is sponsoring a Child Passenger Seat Inspection Day on Wednesday, September 22, from 10 AM to Noon at the Camden County Regional Emergency Training Center. “This is a great opportunity for those interested in knowing if their child’s car seat is installed correctly and to get advice from the experts,” said Freeholder Rod Greco, liaison to Public Safety.
Volunteer Center of Camden County Named 2011 Global Youth Service Day Lead Agency
As a Lead Agency, the Volunteer Center will receive a $2,000 planning grant, travel to the Youth Service Institute, and receive ongoing training & technical assistance throughout the year. The Volunteer Center of Camden County has active partnerships with over 150 non-profit volunteer programs in Camden County. There are volunteer opportunities for everyone, ranging from serving meals to the needy, to sitting on a non-profit Board of Directors.
