GLOUCESTER CITY-Chief George Berglund announced today that the Gloucester City Police Department will begin expanding their efforts to Market and Burlington Streets to enforce the quality of life issues. Berglund states, “ We have been seeing some success with our efforts along Broadway and we will continue to evaluate our efforts at our monthly staff meetings and make the necessary adjustments. POLICE DEPARTMENT CRIME REPORT 10/29/09 TO 11/8/09
- 10/29/09: A resident of the 600 block of Powell St. reports sometime during the day the rear window of his car was smashed with a brick. The car was parked in the 500 block of Powell St.
- 10/29/09: A resident of the 300 block of Jersey Ave. reports sometime between 7:00 and 7:39 p.m. the rear window of her car was smashed with a brick.
- 10/30/09: Sometime overnight the windows of (2) cars parked on Newton Alley behind the 600 block of Division St. were smashed.
- 10/30/09: At 2:50 p.m. an officer responded to the Wawa for a reported shoplifting. A description was provided of a man who stole a carton of cigarettes and fled from the store. The suspect was not located; however, the store surveillance video was retrieved.Investigation to continue.
- 10/30/09: At 5:30 p.m. an employee from Verizon was working on Oxford Ave. when he was threatened by a resident. The resident told the Verizon employee he was on the wrong side of town and threatened to kill him. Michael Daley Sr., 58, a resident of Oxford Ave. was arrested and charged with Bias Intimidation, Terroristic Threats and Harassment.
- 10/30/09: A resident of the 100 block of Gehrig Ave. reports sometime overnight unknown person(s) entered her unlocked car and moved personal items from her purse.
- 11/1/09: At 1:28 p.m. officers responded to the Maple Terrace Trailer park for a report of an assault. After further investigation,Joseph Holmes, 52, a resident of the trailer park was charged with Simple Assault.
- 11/1/09: At 4:40 p.m. an officer responded to D.J.'s Auto Electric for a report of a suspicious man. Upon arrival, the witness reported a man acting suspicious around a truck parked on the lot.Before calling the police the witness yelled at the man and he left the area. A search of the area was unsuccessful.
- 11/2/09: At 2:25 p.m. an officer was transporting an intoxicated man, who was arrested in Brooklawn earlier in the evening, to his residence on Lehigh Ave. when he began punching the patrol car divider between the front and rear seats. The officer ordered the male to stop and he complied. Shortly thereafter, the man began punching the divider again, threatened the officer and stated he hated all cops. The transport was then diverted to Police Headquarters where the man was arrested. Sean Curran, 23, a resident of the 200 block of Lehigh Ave. was charged with Criminal Mischief due to the damage he caused to the police vehicle.
- 11/2/09: Sometime during the weekend unknown person(s) entered the construction site on Rt. 130 at Market St. and removed various tools and equipment valued at $16,500. Investigation is ongoing.
- 11/2/09: At 7:12 p.m. an officer on patrol observed two males sitting on the front steps of a business on Broadway at Hudson St. They had no legitimate purpose to obstruct the entry to the business. The officer advised both they had to leave and they complied. When the officer returned a short time later, the males were again sitting on the steps. Michael Burkhardt, 56, no present address and Patrick Merrill,50, no present address, were charged with Loitering.
- 11/3/09: At 8:06 p.m. an officer on patrol observed a man urinating on the sidewalk in front of Carr's Hardware. Michael Burkhardt, 56, no present address, was charged with urinating in public and turned over to a relative.
- 11/3/09: At 2:30 a.m. officers responded to a residence on Cumberland St. for a possible suicide. Upon arrival, officers located a man who was deceased. Further investigation determined the cause of death to be suicide.
- 11/3/09: At 4:25 p.m. Raymond Drescher Jr., 33, a resident of the 200 block of N. Broadway was arrested near his home for Contempt, Possession of Marijuana and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.
- 11/4/09: A resident of the 100 block of N. King St. reports sometime between 8:00 and 8:30 p.m. on 10/31/09 her cell phone was stolen from her front step after she left it there accidentally.
- 11/4/09: At 7:57 p.m. Richard Goodman, 46, a resident of the 300block of Middlesex St. was arrested for Contempt on Broadway at Morris St.
- 11/5/09: A resident of the 600 block of Powell St. reports sometime overnight unknown person(s) smashed the side door window of her car and removed a cell phone.
- 11/5/09: At 3:15 p.m. officers responded to Broadway at Monmouth St. for a reported fight. Upon arrival it was determined several juveniles had engaged in a fight and one of the juveniles was injured.The suspects had fled prior to police arrival; however, they have all been identified and charges are pending.
- 11/5/09: A resident of the 300 block of Somerset St. reports sometime overnight unknown person(s) entered his unlocked car and removed prescription medication from the glove box.
- 11/6/09: At 1:02 p.m. officers responded to a residence on N.Burlington St. for a disturbance. It was determined the homeowner was attempting to evict two other adults from the house who had been staying there temporarily. Further investigation revealed the homeowner had been charging both adults weekly rents to stay there and they stopped paying. The homeowner was advised what she was doing was illegal and the investigation was turned over to the Housing Authority.
- 11/6/09: At 10:07 p.m. a resident was walking her baby in a stroller on King St. at Middlesex St. when a man driving a white truck with "Comcast" written on the side pulled up to her and asked if he could use her cell phone. She handed the man her cell phone and he drove away. Police were contacted approximately (30) minutes after the incident.
- 11/7/09: At 3:52 p.m. officers responded to an abandoned house in the 200 block of Somerset St. for a report of (2) juvenile boys in therear yard breaking a window. The first officer to arrive witnessed both boys fleeing from the area, one on foot and one on a bike. Both boys were arrested on Cumberland St. at Sussex St. A (14) year old boy from King St. and a (12) year old boy from the 900 block of Market St. were charged with Defiant Trespass and released to their parents.
- 11/7/09: At 6:12 p.m. officers responded to Broadway at MercerSt. for a report of a fight. As a result, Raymond Fetzer, 54, no present address and Renee Hettich, 38, no present address were arrested and charged with Disorderly Conduct.
In addition, the Patrol Division conducted (6) motor vehicle crash investigations, (10) domestic violence investigations and (2) missing
person investigations.
Those charged are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
