Kean University: Chunn Tabbed NJAC Offensive Player of the Week
Pitman, N.J. (11/9/09) - Senior running back Jared Chunn (Tinton Falls, N.J.) has been tabbed as the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Offensive Player of the Week following his performance in Kean's road win against William Paterson.
Chunn earns NJAC Offensive Player of the Week honors for the second time this season after leading the Cougars to a 20-0 NJAC road victory at William Paterson. In the win which improved Kean to 8-0 in conference, he collected a career-high 246 rushing yards on 37 carries, including touchdown runs of 4 and 19 yards apiece. His performance marked the most rushing yards by any league player in a game this season, and the fourth highest single-game rushing total in Kean program history.
Chunn currently leads the NJAC in rushing with an average of 114.6 yards per game.
ROWAN FIELD HOCKEY RECEIVES NJAC ALL-CONFERENCE HONORS
PITMAN, NJ – The Rowan University field hockey team received five of the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) end of the year awards and six players earned All-Conference honors.
Forward Lauren Ross (jr. Gloucester City, NJ/Gloucester) was named the NJAC Attack Player of the Year, Jenna Lombardo (sr. Barnegat, NJ/Southern Reg.) was selected the Midfielder of the Year and Kacey Ehret (sr. Collingswood, NJ/Collingswood) was chosen the Defensive Player of the Year. Lisa Apt (so. Mays Landing, NJ/Oakcrest) was tabbed the conference’s Goaltender of the Year and Penny Kempf was voted the NJAC Coach of the Year. Ross, Lombardo, Ehret and Apt were all members of the NJAC All-Conference first team along with back Lauren Conner (so. Egg Harbor Twp., NJ/Egg Harbor Twp.). Forward Julie Cairone (so. Medford, NJ/Shawnee) received All-Conference honorable mention.
Ross is the Profs’ leading scorer with 38 points. She has scored 18 goals and assisted on two. In the overall conference stats, Ross is tied for first in goals (18) and is second in points (38). She is also ranked third in points (2.11) and goals (1.0) per game. Last year, Ross was a NJAC All-Conference honorable mention selection.
Lombardo has contributed with one goal and six assists for eight points. She is tied for second in the NJAC in assists (6) and is fourth in assists per game (0.35). A starter, Conner has eight points with three goals and two assists. Ehret and Conner start on a defense that has recorded seven shutouts and a goals against average (GAA) of 1.20. Rowan is ranked first in the conference in scoring margin (1.70) and shutouts (7) and second in GAA (1.20). In 2008, Ehret was selected to the NJAC All-Conference first team.
This season, Apt has started every game in the Profs’ goal. She has compiled 81 saves for a 79.4 save percentage that is first in the NJAC. Apt is also ranked first in shutouts (5) and second in GAA (1.23). She was selected the NJAC Defensive Player of the Week in the first week of the season. Apt made five saves in a 4-0 win over Cabrini College and she stopped seven shots for a 4-0 shutout against Haverford College.
In her 12th season, Kempf has a won-loss record of 187-48. She has guided Rowan to six NJAC Championships (2009, 2005, 2003, 2002, 2000, 1998), 11 NCAA tournament appearances and one NCAA Division III title (2002). This is her fourth NJAC Coach of the Year honor. She was also named the conference’s Coach of the Year in 2005, 2002 and 1998.
Cairone is third on the team in scoring with 25 points. She has 10 goals and five assists. Twice this year, she was selected the NJAC Offensive Player of the Week. In the conference, Cairone is tied for sixth in game winning goals (3) and tied for seventh in goals (10). She is also ranked seventh in points (25) and eighth in points (1.39) and goals (0.56) per game.
Rowan has a 14-4 overall record. The Profs were undefeated in the conference with a 6-0 mark. The field hockey team received an automatic bid to the 2009 NCAA Division III Championship Tournament as the NJAC champion. Rowan is making its 17th trip and fifth straight to the national postseason.

Holy Family University Women’s Volleyball Season Ends with 3-0 Loss to Philadelphia in CACC Tournament(11/10/2009)
PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – The Holy Family University women’s volleyball team had its season come to a close after suffering a 3-0 (21-25, 22-25, 28-30) loss to host Philadelphia University in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Championship Tournament quarterfinal match on Tuesday night.
Holy Family ended its 2009 season with an overall record of 14-22. It was the Tigers third consecutive trip to the CACC Championship Tournament.
Outside hitter Katie Hornback (so. Indianapolis, Ind./Heritage Christian) led the Holy Family offense with a match-high 15 kills to go with seven digs. Outside hitter Jill Keeve (so. La Grange, Ill./Lyons Twp.) added nine kills and six digs. Setter Aimee Drabyn (jr. Avon, Ind./Avon) recorded a match-best 30 assists. Libero Jordan Beland (so. Shrewsbury, Pa./Susquehannock) added 20 digs, while defensive specialist Mackenzie Bickes (fr. Orchard Park, Mich./Mercy) had 10 digs.
Outside hitter Celena Rendon paced Philadelphia with 14 digs and 10 kills. Outside hitter Nicole Berkstesser contributed nine kills. Outside hitter Danielle Carney had seven kills. Outside hitter Cindy Adams and middle hitter Molly Malone each had six kills. Adams also had 11 digs. Setters Adrienne Stigura and Lauren Hoover pitched in with 19 and 18 assists, respectively. Libero Natalie Amodei paced the defense with 18 digs.
Both teams recorded seven total blocks and five service aces. Philadelphia had a slight edge in digs, 63-59. The Rams held the advantage in kills, 46-34, and hitting percentage, .194 (46-20-134) to .103 (34-21-126).
Holy Family University Men’s Basketball Falls to Binghamton in Exhibition Contest, 64-50

VESTAL, N.Y. – Guard Dylan Talley scored a team-high 14 points to lead the Division I Binghamton University men’s basketball team past Holy Family University, 64-50, in an exhibition contest at the Events Center on Tuesday night.
Forwards Moussa Camara, Greer Wright and guard Chretien Lukusa all added 12 points. Wright added seven rebounds and five steals. Lukusa also contributed six boards and six assists. For Holy Family, guard Kahlil Mumford (so. Philadelphia, Pa./Cardinal Dougherty) had a game-high 15 points to go with four rebounds and three assists. Forward Justin Swidowski (so. Cinnaminson, N.J./Holy Cross) had 13 points, seven rebounds and two blocks. Forward Ismaila Traore (gr. Mail/St. Benedict's) recorded eight rebounds and six points.
The Bearcats shot 40.7 percent (24 of 59), while the Tigers connected on 37.3 percent (19 of 51) of their attempts. Binghamton outrebounded Holy Family, 38-34. Holy Family committed 21 turnovers, while Binghamton committed just 15.
The Bearcats led by nine (31-22) at halftime. A lay-up by forward Sam Mushman (so. Tabernacle, N.J./Pope John XXIII) cut the gap to five (34-29) at the 16:32 mark. Binghamton responded with a 10-3 spurt to move ahead by 12 (44-32). A three by guard Taylor Papion (fr. Lafayette, La./Teurlings Catholic) pulled the Tigers within seven (46-39) with 9:20 left. The Bearcats came back with seven straight points to take a game-high 14-point lead (53-39). Holy Family managed to get as close as nine down the stretch.
Bearcats started the contest with a 15-5 run in the first five minutes. Camara led the charge with a pair of three-pointers. A Swidowski jumper cut the Tiger deficit in half (15-10) at the 13:17 mark. Binghamton regained its double-digit lead with 10:19 left in the half after Lukusa converted a three-point play. The lead grew to 11 (29-18) at the 8:47 mark when Johnston connected from three-point range. Holy Family’s defense would keep the home team scoreless for the next 8:02, while its deficit shrunk to seven (29-22). Talley scored the final points of the half on a lay-up with 45 seconds left in the half.
Holy Family concludes its exhibition schedule on Saturday, November 14 at Delaware State University at 7 p.m.
Holy Family University Women's Soccer to Take On Franklin Pierce
in NCAA Division II Tournament First Round

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -- The Holy Family University women's soccer team drew Franklin Pierce in the opening round of the NCAA Division II Tournament First Round when the 48-team bracket was released on Monday night. The game will be held on Friday, November 13 at the University of Bridgeport.
This will be the team's second ever appearance in the NCAA Tournament, the first one came in 2007. Holy Family (13-8-1) earned an automatic bid to the tournament by winning its seventh Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) championship on Saturday. The seven CACC titles are the most by any team at Holy Family.
Franklin Pierce (16-4-1) earned at-large spot in the tournament after finishing as the runner-up in the Northeast-10.
The two schools squared off in the opening round of the 2007 NCAA Tournament with the Ravens advancing after a 4-0 win.
The winner of Friday's first round match-up will take on the University of Bridgeport on Sunday, November 15. The round of 16 will be held on Friday, November 20 and Sunday, November 22. The national semi-finals are on Thursday, December 3 with the championship game on Saturday, December 5 in Tampa, Fla.
Holy Family is led by All-CACC first teamers midfielder Lindsay Fisher (so. Oakford, Pa./Archbishop Wood) and back Meghan McCusker (sr. Sewell, N.J./Gloucester Catholic) Fisher has 10 assists and six goals. McCusker was named to the All-CACC Tournament team. Forward Megan Tole (fr. Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Ryan), an All-CACC second team pick, had 11 goals and two assists. Back Ashley Smith (sr. Philadelphia, Pa./Little Flower) earned All-CACC honorable mention. Forward Dawn Curry (so. Pennsville, N.J./Pennsville) is the team's leader scoring with 10 goals and six assists. Goalkeeper Gina Mansi (so. Washington Twp., N.J./Washington Twp.) has seven wins this year, four by shutout. She was the CACC Championship Tournament MVP by posting a 0.00 goals against average and 16 saves.
Kean Football Ranked in Pair of Top 25 Polls
UNION, N.J. (11/9/09) - The Kean University football team cracked the top 25 in a pair of national polls after the Cougars won their eighth straight game to remain undefeated in the New Jersey Athletic Conference.
The 8-1 Cougars are ranked 24th in both the American Football Coaches Association Division III Coaches' Poll and the D3football.com Top 25 poll heading into this weekend's showdown at Montclair State University for the NJAC title. The Cougars are seeking their first berth in the NCAA tournament and their third NJAC title in program history, first since the 1994 squad was NJAC co-champions. Kean also won the NJAC title outright in 1987 when the team won a school record nine games.
Kean is also ranked in a pair of regional polls, as the Cougars are fourth in the Eastern College Athletic Conference Lambert Meadowlands Division III poll and NCAA East Region polls.
Kean and Montclair State are both undefeated in conference play with an 8-0 mark in the NJAC. The Red Haws are ranked seventh in the NCAA East Region poll, eighth in the ECAC Lambert poll and are receiving votes in both the AFCA Coaches and D3football.com polls.
The Cougars eight-game winning streak is the longest in school history, while the eight wins are tied for the second most in school history. It is the third time in the last four seasons the Cougars have won at least seven games.
Kean's only loss of the season is to Middle Atlantic Conference Champion Delaware Valley College in the season opener back on September 12. The Aggies are also 8-1 overall this season and are ranked 17th by D3football.com and 18th in the AFCA poll.
