“I am extremely ecstatic hearing the news of the grant monies that Brooklawn will receive as part of the $1 billion federal stimulus funding,” Mayor John Soubasis said.
“I would like to thank all our local political representatives for their efforts in securing the funding,” he said. “A special thank you is given to Police Captain Steve Saymon, who wrote the grant application. With the monies, Brooklawn can now hire an additional police officer.”
Brooklawn will receive $350,081 in stimulus money. Also, in South Jersey, Paulsboro will receive $206,900 and Salem will receive $240,419. Pennsauken Township, because of its size, will receive $1,002,720.
During the July Borough Council meeting, Chuck Riebel Jr. of Kei Associates, borough engineers, said Brooklawn will be aw-arded $25,000 for a playground thanks to a Camden County Open Space Program.
Councilman Jerry Granstrom gave a “welcome back” to Fire Code Official Carl Thomas, upon Thomas’ return back to work following his surgery.
Council members congratulated and welcomed the new owners of Ponzio’s Diner on Route 130 in Brooklawn.
A “person to person” transfer for a liquor license for the new owners was approved in a resolution. They also own the Oregon Diner in Philadelphia.
Borough Clerk Barbara Lewis asked for a volunteer to serve on a Project Team for the Camden County Bicycle and Multi-Use Trails Master Plan.
Councilman Greg Gilbert volunteered to be on the project for the Borough.
Council President Theresa Branella reminded Council members and department heads to have news items ready for the upcoming borough newsletter.
