“A Gloucester City Christmas” was a wonderful success, thanks to a great job by members and volunteers of the Celebrations Committee.
Councilwoman Kellie Ferry, with help from her husband, Jim, was able to coordinate the event that attracted nearly 1,000 people to Mary Ethel Costello School (MEC) on a snowy Saturday night.
First, Santa Claus (who did an awesome job) was driven around Gloucester City on a fire engine, and then helped light the tree at the Municipal Complex on Broadway.
Once at MEC, he listened to the wishes and hopes of hundreds of children. Karen Jackson and the elves were busy taking pictures and handing out gifts.
The food in the cafeteria, provided by local caterers, was delicious. Songs and carols, complete with a pianist and Mary Lou Adams, sounded wonderful. And the face painting and arts and crafts were a big hit.
Children and adults alike also enjoyed the horse and carriage rides through the streets, with the snow falling.
Good job to everyone involved.
New Philadelphia 76ers Coach
Congratulations to Tony DiLeo, born and raised in Cinnaminson, who was named as the new coach of the Philadelphia 76ers last weekend.
Tony was a great athlete. He and Terry Brennan rotated as the starting pitcher and shortstop on the Sacred Heart Little League Traveling Team, due to the limit of innings pitched. Other players included Tim Vanak, Joe Milligan, Bill DeVece, Michael Grace, Tim Cahill, Mike DeVece, Billy Anderson, Joe Fries, Tim Brennan, this reporter, Tony Giampaolo, and the coach and his dad, Mr. G.
It was a tremendous team that rarely lost. DiLeo and Brennan were particularly unhittable, especially during championship and tournament games at the OLPH ballfields in Maple Shade. Tony was always winner.
DiLeo played basketball at Cinnaminson High School, LaSalle University, and professionally in Europe, where he also coached. The Sixers made an excellent choice.
