In regards to the story in the September 14th edition of the NEWS, (Quality of Water Better), whoever made that statement must be drinking bottled water and not Gloucester City’s water. When I turn my water on it comes out brown, and you have to let it run for a little bit.
I have never had to do that in other towns I have lived in. And the taste – it is like your drinking right from the river. It is nastier then nasty, and let’s not forget about our radon problem.
They can say there cleaning it up all they want. But if it has been in the ground for years and the dirt has been rained on, it stands to reason that it is down deep. If it is in the soil, it is in us.
We are drinking it everyday. Our town’s elected employees (and that’s what they are, our employees) should be locked in a room with two or three gallons of our water to drink, and that’s it. I will bet they come up with a suitable plan for changes at the Water Department.
In my opinion, if there are higher than normal levels of a chemical in our water, no matter how small of an increase it is, our mayor and council need to do their jobs. Get our water at normal levels without the chemicals that are causing a lot of cancer, illness and deaths in our town.
Water is supposed to be good for you -- not kill you.
